Argentina experts find ancient meteorite

The world's second largest meteor has been discovered in northern Argentina, a news report says.

A team of experts found the 30,800 kilogram meteorite buried in the province of Chaco, about 800 kilometres northwest of the capital Buenos Aires on Saturday, the news agency Telam says.

The discovery was made in an area called Campo del Cielo, which lies in the municipality of Gancedo, where a meteor shower hit approximately 4000 years ago.

The world's largest discovered meteor - called Hoba - weighs more than 50 tonnes and was found in Namibia nearly a century ago.

If one is going to use the words "meteor" and "meteorite", then one might consult a dictionary to understand what is signified by those words.

You of course, should be the one to shoot him. It would illustrate both your courage and your bravery, rather than allowing people to think you're simply over-reacting to a misuse of English in a fit of hysterics and pique.

I love how lazily poking away at a keyboard during moments of downtime becomes "a fit of hysterics and pique".

But, on second thought, shootin's too good for the author. The author should be flayed to an inch of his/her life, locked away in a windowless cell, and brought out once a year for a festival of jeering by the literate people of the world.

And, as I type this, I assure you that I am jumping up and down red-faced in an utter panic.

Team uncovers massive 30 ton meteorite in Argentina

by Brett Smith

Last week, researchers uncovered a meteorite weighing over 30 tons in northern Argentina.

The meteorite was found more than 670 miles north of Buenos Aires and it is thought to be the second largest ever discovered.
"While we hoped for weights above what had been registered, we did not expect it to exceed 30 tons," said Mario Vesconi, president of the Astronomy Association of Chaco. He added that "the size and weight surprised us,” according to the Xinhua news agency.

"It was in Campo del Cielo, where a shower of metallic meteorites fell around 4,000 years ago," the researchers behind the discovery said.

No, a shower of metallic meteorites did not fall. Meteors fell. Upon landing, they became meteorites.

A meteor is an object which enters the atmosphere and creates a streaking light in the sky.

A meteorite is a mineral found on or in the earth.
