Congressman's wife calls prostitution claims 'false attacks'

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- The wife of Republican U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany is defending him against prostitution allegations raised in a new book, describing "false attacks" that she says are aimed at disrupting his bid for a U.S. Senate seat in Louisiana.

In an email sent to supporters Monday, Bridget Boustany suggests her husband's opponents are spreading the information, which she called "lies." Bridget Boustany doesn't use the word prostitution in the email, but she talks of people who have "called his character into question."

"He's a good man, a loving husband, and an incredible father to our two children," Bridget Boustany says in the email.

. . .

The book by Ethan Brown - which has been circulated to reporters and others ahead of its release Tuesday - includes a chapter that claims Charles Boustany was involved with prostitutes who were killed in Jefferson Parish. Brown cites multiple anonymous sources. He does not allege the congressman is involved in the slayings.

The book blurb mentioned that he wasn't alleged to be involved in the slayings, but what can we really know? One hand washes the other....

A new book investigating the murders of eight Louisiana sex workers raises questions about a United States congressman’s alleged ties to a local prostitution hub.

In the book, Murder in the Bayou — which will be released by Simon & Schuster’s Scribner imprint next week — investigative journalist Ethan Brown cites three anonymous sources claiming Republican Rep. Charles Boustany was a “client” of some of the murdered sex workers known as the “Jeff Davis 8.” The book also reveals that the motel where some of the victims did their sex work was run by Martin Guillory, a field representative for Boustany who goes by the nickname “Big G.”

Boustany, who is now running for U.S. Senate in Louisiana, denied the allegations to the author through a spokesman. Guillory, who ran the Boudreaux Inn from the late 1990s through the end of 2004, told the author he’d met “one or two” of the sex workers, as well as Frankie Richard, their pimp. But Guillory said he was unaware of any criminal activity taking place at the motel.

Between 2005 and 2009, the bodies of eight women were discovered in the canals and swamps surrounding the small town of Jennings in Louisiana’s Jefferson Davis Parish. The victims, whose murders remain unsolved, became known in the national media as the “Jeff Davis 8.”

No, Louisiana Senate Campaign Says, We Did Not Spread These Very Specific Prostitution Allegations About Our Rival

By Jim Newell

The Louisiana Senate race has turned into an old-timey Southern "dirty tricks" race involving prostitutes, swamps, murder, and sass. The contest features 24 candidates from all parties lumped together in a “jungle” primary to be held on Election Day. Unless one candidate takes a majority, as appears unlikely in a 24-candidate field, the next senator from Louisiana will be determined in a December runoff between the top two primary vote-getters.

The nationally most well-known of the 24 candidates is Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, the subject of considerable waffling from the Trump-Pence campaign. Also on the ballot is Rep. John Fleming, who as we speak is trying to impeach the IRS commissioner to enhance his own political standing. The two leading Republican candidates in the mix, though, are state treasurer John Kennedy and Rep. Charles Boustany, in that order.

The bad news for Boustany, aside from how he was already trailing Kennedy, is that a new book comes out Tuesday alleging that he was a client of prostitutes who were later murdered. In Murder in the Bayou, “investigative journalist Ethan Brown cites three anonymous sources claiming Republican Rep. Charles Boustany was a ‘client’ of some of the murdered sex workers known as the ‘Jeff Davis 8,’ ” BuzzFeed reported last week. “The book also reveals that the motel where some of the victims did their sex work was run by Martin Guillory, a field representative for Boustany who goes by the nickname ‘Big G.’ ” The Boustany campaign categorically denied the allegations, saying “these allegations are completely false and don't even deserve a response” in its official response.

The Associated Press reported that Boustany’s wife, Bridget, sent an email to supporters Monday calling the allegations “lies” and describing her husband as “a good man, a loving husband, and an incredible father to our two children.” She also suggested that “Charles' opponents have resorted to lies about him.”
