The former State Department employee who set up Hillary Clintons private email server did not appear before the House Oversight Committee on Tuesday morning despite a subpoena to testify on the deletion of some of Clintons emails.
Bryan Pagliano exercised his Fifth Amendment right not to testify against himself before the House Select Committee on Benghazi in 2015. He was also reportedly awarded an immunity deal during the FBIs now-closed investigation into Clintons use of the server while secretary of State.
Its a serious matter. Mr. Pagliano has chosen to evade a subpoena duly issued by the committee. I will consult with counsel and my colleagues to consider a full range of options available to address Mr. Paglianos failure to appear, Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) said.
He should be here. When you are served a subpoena by the United States Congress, that is not optional, he said. Rep. John Mica (R-Fla.) suggested that contempt of Congress could be an option for the committee.

Ummm, exercising your 5th Amendment Rights is completely constitutional.
Furthermore, it is plainly obvious that these "investigations" are nothing but disgusting partisan witch hunts trying to find anything republicans can use to discredit Hilary Clinton before the election.
Imo, Congress is in contempt of the American People.
Deplorable

(15,696 posts)They all had legal bills way over $100K each because of that witch hunt, and not one of them knew anything about the president's sex life. Pleading the fifth is the wisest course of action. Even if you have an "immunity deal," legal representation is super expensive in DC.
Republicans ARE deplorable. The lot of them.

Funny how this what's good for the goose is good for the gander simply doesn't work when Republicons are involved...
