Some 160 treated for heat-related illnesses during Rams game

Source: AP

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities said nearly 160 were treated for heat-related illnesses during the Los Angeles Rams' first regular-season home game.

Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart says of those treated, 14 people were taken to the hospital but none were in critical condition.

More than 91,000 people attended the game at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum as downtown baked in 90-degree weather.

The National Weather Service said a weak onshore flow pushed the mercury across the state where temperatures hit the 80s and 90s in many spots, while temperatures in inland areas hit triple digits.

So hot, we went snorkeling at Santa Catalina Island, a week before October, sitting outside into the evening in wet shorts and it felt positively balmy.

September is often the warmest month of the year in the coastal areas.

Around 2:30pm, clouds started rolling in (marine layer) and it dropped to the lower 70's. It wasn't as bad as was predicted: 90 degrees.
I was watching the game, and could see the marine layer in the distance, when they showed a stadium view. I'm surprised it was so hot at Memorial Stadium. Plus there wasn't a lot of humidity in the high.

you should not be outside at a football game. Don't blame it on the climate.

It just finally dropped into the 90's here and we are ecstatic we can go outside again for more than an hour.
