The media will find some way to explain this all away. They'd do the same if he had a 20 point lead.

And though certainly not perfect, the ACA ruling was a win. I'm sure that's at least part of the bump.

to have O top out after the convention in early September afterwhich they will bring him back down to "horse race" level by election time. You can see the regular pattern already "forming" in that chart.

At this point in the campaign Romney is supposed to be running to the center but if he does that he will lose his base.

He has to convince them that he hates Obama as much as they do. This is one of the reasons they didn't like McCain. He tried to be civilized. They don't WANT "civilized". They want Romney to get up there and channel their FOX "News" induced rage.

way electoral votes are counted - other than a handful on anomalous states that allocate down to the congressional district level.

I'll look at state by state numbers about 2 weeks before the election. In 2004, and working with only open polls found on RCP, I missed the Presidential Count by 4 Electoral Votes, was exact on the House count, and missed the Senate by one or two.

No private/inside polling was considered.

My BS was in my school's version of Poly Sci - but as a civil servant, partisan activities are out of bounds for me.

CNN announced a poll today that has Romney leading in the battleground states. That is scary! They also showed Obama outspending Romney (amounts) in each state. They brought up the fact that the Super Pac money hasn't started flowing yet. They said the President was begging everyone for money. They showed all his letters asking for $3. They said he was not going to be on top as far a fundraising because he doesn't have the Wal Street money like last time.

They are sure working on bringing Obama down. Everybody stay positive. Our President will win. The American people can't be this foolish.

"CNN announced a poll today that has Romney leading in the battleground states. That is scary!"

Is that the same CNN that was spoiling so hard to announce an Obama failure last week that they got the SCOTUS / healthcare ruling wrong? The CNN reporter who called it wrongly-- and Blitzer-- sounded overjoyed to hear of an apparent "failure" for the President. I don't think I'll be putting much stock in their poll.

I do agree / hope that the American people can't be foolish enough to elect Mitt. I just have a feeling that moderate voters who are on the fence are listening to the GOP's b.s. from the sidelines and just don't buy any of it. And I think a certain block of voters who don't adore Obama do prefer him to the gop's whining and Rmoney's flip-flopping.

Fair or not, people typically blame the POTUS for a bad economy. And in this case it is partly unfair because the opposition would be much, much worse. The recovery act helped of course, but "not as bad as it could have been" is a tough sell. True that Rs block everything O wants in Congress, but he did appoint Geitner and seems to be buying into the "reduce government" crap.

years ago. $3.38 now, versus $4.07 then. Mitt has no traction. If he calls Obama on something, Obama will have it fixed in a flash. Mitt can't win.
