Mexican cops find van with air cannon used to shoot pot into Arizona
Sep 21, 2016

DOUGLAS, ARIZONA – Drug smugglers employ very creative methods to get their loads across the U.S.-Mexico border.

But it’s not every day they use a van outfitted with a 10-foot (3-meter) air cannon to shoot projectiles into the United States.

Mexican federal police said in a statement last week they found such van parked on a street in Agua Prieta, Mexico, along the border with Douglas, Arizona.

It was reported stolen from the city of Hermosillo in the Mexican state of Sonora over the summer.

The War on Drugs in general - but the criminalization of pot especially - is nothing short of a crime against humanity. But such is the world, as you know so well.

The Argentines, in particular, would do well to legalize and commercialize pot - given that it grows so very well in the country's rainy, Florida-like Northeast. It would give thousands of unjustly incarcerated young people (mostly mestizo) a second chance in life, and while they're at it, help Argentina with their perennial balance of payments of problems.

The Central Bank Balance of Payments Report came out today. It's not as bad as I thought it would be - it's worse.

Check out thread I posted dealing with that report when you get the chance, would you? (http://www.democraticunderground.com/110852959) Your commentary always adds so much insight to those, Judi.

Crime against humanity so well expresses what is occurring with prohibition.

Why in the world would any candidate for higher office (no pun intended) not take a firm stance on this issue? I have serious problem with anyone feeling that they can dictate to me what I can do as an adult. To be honest,it is another reason why I do not trust either candidate for this office. You are either for freedom,or you are not. There is no middle ground.

too many people are making too much money.

They've basically used a social problem they themselves often aid and abet, to impose a state of siege. And to crate a trough with a looong row of pigs: from the narcos themselves (who definitely don't want it legalized), to the prison-industrial complex, to security and military firms, to lobbyists and talking heads, and (by way of bribes) many a Congresscritter and career politician.

On a lighter note, welcome to DU, Wies Acres! I'm sure you'll enjoy it here; lots of give-and-take, and one really does learn something new every day.

Feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions - or with Judi Lynn, one of our most experienced, progressive, and downright pleasant people on DU.

Happy posting, and All the Best.

Holy smokes! Have never seen formations like this. Wow.

Nor this, also in N.E. Argentina!

Such an array of breathtaking landscapes, flora, fauna it seems impossible! Looks as if there's more than enough room and appropriate climate for growing vast amounts, putting all kinds of young people to work, paying them real wages so they have no need to steal, it would transform life altogether, refocusing less on chasing kids around to throw them in jail, feeding the private prison system, the unnecessarily large legal system, prison construction companies, prison workers populations, etc., etc.

It's time Argentina swept away all the remnants of that murderous, greedy fascist military dictatorship once and for all and started allowing all the citizens a chance to live, not just the grabby, racist oligarchs who are fonder of the U.S. right-wing Gov't than they are the Argentinian people.

Saw your Balance of Payments report, was sufficiently horrified. As everyone knows by now, the progressive he drove out of office would have been so much better for the country, for the huge majority of the people. He has simply made a horrible mess, and with full, beaming support from the US, bless his heart. They love him because he is so anal, so racist, so misanthropic, so willing to betray his country to US and other financial interests.

Thanks.

same opportunities for greatness that the U.S. has had, but one huge difference in development was that the wealthy classes in Argentina didn't believe educating the population was desirable, whereas in North America a sufficient number felt that was absolutely imperative for a democratic republic, and fought for it. (Jefferson represents them on Rushmore, but the others who made it possible over great opposition should have an even more magnificent monument.)

Worth thinking about now, one reason the right-wing super-rich need a majority on SCOTUS is for abolition of compulsory education. It'll be presented as a personal freedom issue, but it's also a necessary step in eliminating almost all state and federal taxation for government programs.

Kinda wandered away from Trumpian walls here, but maybe not to total disconnect...
