Early ballots: Clinton sees strength in NC but lags in Iowa

Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — Seven weeks before Election Day, the earliest numbers from advance voting for president show initial strength for Hillary Clinton in swing state North Carolina, good news for Donald Trump in battleground Iowa and a record number of requests for ballots in Ohio.

The first early voting figures Tuesday are too preliminary to serve as clear indicators about how the election will go. Still, they are of interest because, unlike polls, they deal with actual voters either casting ballots or taking their first steps to do so. Campaigns are scrutinizing these figures to help guide their strategies.

Among those requesting an early ballot in Iowa was Josh Hughes, a 19-year-old sophomore at Drake University in Des Moines. "I'm so ready for the election to be over," he said, citing negative campaign rhetoric.

He plans to vote for Clinton, the Democratic nominee. Many of his classmates — once Bernie Sanders supporters — are opting to wait for now. "The engagement is a little bit lower," he said.

I really would like to see Grassley defeated, we need the senate and the U.S Supreme Court, and other agencies

I can't believe that we are basically conceding the state to Trump.

Iowa has 6 electoral votes.... NC has 15....... enough said....its about the electoral votes. If Hillary loses a state with 3 electoral votes, but wins one with 10...so be it

It really saddens me to see my home state trending stupid beginning with the constant re-electing of King, moving to Branstead returning to the Governors office and electing Ernst. I really hope that the voters will wake up and realize just how awful people like that are sooner rather than later.

If Iowa goes for the combover king, they lose all rights to make fun of Minnesota for at least two election cycles.

Back in November, he called them stupid. This is from the Boston Globe's article.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, brushing aside any recent claims of civility, has equated Ben Carson’s childhood ‘‘pathological temper’’ to the illness of a child molester, questioned his religious awakening and berated voters who support him.

‘‘How stupid are the people of Iowa?’’ declared Trump during a rally at Iowa Central Community College. ‘‘How stupid are the people of the country to believe this crap?’’ For more than an hour and a half Thursday night, the billionaire real estate mogul harshly criticized not only Carson, but many of his other competitors in the race for the GOP presidential nomination.

Their ad is what is giving Blunt(here in MO) any hint of advantage.

The Kochs are using the NRA endorsements(all Rs, except Koster) to defeat Dems here.

It is really all they've got. Unfortunately, it may be working.
