Tulsa Police Officer Turns Herself In On Manslaughter Charge

Source: Tulsa KOTV

TULSA, Oklahoma - Sources tell News On 6 Officer Betty Shelby was booked into the Tulsa County jail sometime early Friday morning and posted bond shortly thereafter.

This, after Tulsa County District Attorney Stephen Kunzweiler announced he charged Officer Betty Shelby with first-degree manslaughter in the death of Terence Crutcher.

On the formal charge filed with the county, it says Officer Betty Shelby's actions last Friday, which resulted from her fear of Terence Crutcher, were unreasonable.

"I determined that the filing of the felony crime of manslaughter in the first degree against Tulsa Police officer Betty Shelby is warranted," he said.

Well, if you are so afraid of a unarmed black man walking away from you, maybe you just should not be walking around with a gun and a badge. You obviously are ill-suited to the job.

I'm glad she's been charged (so many aren't). She will have a day in court. Not sure how you read anything different in my comment.

Perhaps a trial would provide additional information that might indicate otherwise.

It certainly looks bad from the video, but there could be more to what happened than we realize.

That's what trials are for. Please don't nit-pick me. Spoiling for a fight? I'm not interested.

I agree with your recent post. It seems different from what you were saying above.

I just hope people (not meaning you) are able to understand that they don't know everything about what happened based solely on the videos.

At least she is getting a trial, she is out on bail and is "innocent until proven guilty". The same difference was not given to Mr. Crutcher.

who have gotten away with murder.

So many men have rigged the system from insider trading, but only Martha Stewart paid jail time, a woman. Now we have this unfortunate incident where a woman is the accused, first police woman to commit a crime like this. I am not saying she should not be taken to trial and that, hopefully, the truth will come out of what happened, but starting with Zimmerman, too many men have gotten away with what looked like clear murder.

I am just hoping this is not a gender thing.

The other two for killing unarmed black men. This state may suck in one hell of a lot of ways but we put cops in jail a lot quicker than some places.

they should serve the full prison sentence. They didn't run a red light, they took someone's life.
