BREAKING: DISNEY CONSIDERING BID FOR TWITTER
Source: Bloomberg / DBMnews.com
The Walt Disney Company is evaluating a potential bid for Twitter, Bloomberg reported on Monday, citing people familiar with the matter. After receiving interest in discussing a deal, Twitter has started a process to evaluate a potential sale.
Speculation that Twitter will be sold has been gathering steam in recent months, including last weeks news of Salesforces interest, given the social-media companys slumping stock and difficulties in attracting new users and advertising revenue. Disney, the owner of ABC and ESPN, could obtain a new online outlet for entertainment, sports and news. Jack Dorsey, chief executive officer of Twitter, is on the board of Disney.
Twitter was positioning for sale for some time, technology industry analyst Rob Enderle of Enderle Group said. The problem is, since they are not profitable, finding someone to actually pay money for them.

(2,166 posts)They are the only one's who would find value in the company in spite of it's losing money. Salesforce already buys the data it wants from Twitter's content (probably for less than owning the company would cost), Disney,ESPN,etc already have the coveted content, they have no need to maintain a social network to find eyeballs (for instance twitter already pays to broadcast sports events). Neither have any experience or talent to maintain the constant clatter of a social network and if they screw that up and kill it, then they kill the baby.

(43,123 posts)because despite whatever patents it has, other sites have long been
stripping out specific niches of whatever they use Twitter for and
founding their own sites, Stock Twits and Scutify for example.
Twitter is a communications method or technique, were it not for their
famous name, they would be nothing, AND they are not profitable.
Anyone who buys it will lose money on it, in the long run, expecially if they
pay too much

(6,390 posts)...it Jack Dorsey could be pimping the board to let a few leaks out that Disney is interested just to pump up purchase price.
Disney is very conscious of its brand image...and given twitter can be and is used for things that runs contrary to their image.....
