‘Booed by a room full of priests’: Trump bombs at the #AlSmithDinner and the Internet goes nuts

Source: RawStory

Donald Trump got outright booed at the Al Smith dinner Thursday night. Traditionally, the dinner brings both major parties and candidates together for self-deprecating humor and general silliness.

As you watch the video, note the woman to the left and behind Trump and the man to the right of Trump. The horrified looks on their faces say it all.

“A special hello to all of you in this room who have known and loved me for many, many years,” Trump began. “It’s true. the politicians, they’ve had me to their homes, they’ve introduced me to their children, I’d become their best friends in many instances. They asked for my endorsement and always wanted my money. And even called me really a dear, dear friend. but then, suddenly, decided when I ran for president as a Republican that I’ve always been a no-good, rotten, disgusting scoundrel. And they totally forgot about me. But that’s okay.”

This opening section was the first indication the only jokes to come were attacks on Clinton.

That’s when the internet began to light him up. Here are a few reactions below:

Trump booed at Al Smith dinner

Donald Trump's appearance at Thursday night's charity event took a tough turn as the crowd repeatedly booed the GOP nominee for his sharp-edged jokes about his rival Hillary Clinton.

While the New York fundraiser for Catholic charities always includes the two candidates getting laughs at their rival’s expense, Trump’s lines stuck closely to his campaign’s antagonistic rhetoric after an initially positive start.

The boos first began when Trump joked about Clinton being too corrupt to serve on the Watergate commission. “Hillary is so corrupt that she got kicked off the Watergate commission,” he said.

And they deepened when he pivoted to the hacked emails of her top aides. “We’ve learned so much from WikiLeaks,” Trump said. “For example, Hillary believes that it’s vital to deceive the people by having one public policy and a totally different policy in private.”

Totally unnecessary, but hey, got more laughs than most of his "humor," for some reason. Even though Melania's in her mid-forties, its hard to imagine Donald coming up with a more attractive, yet classy-looking, trophy wife at this point. Unless her pre-nup will leave her in poverty, I have a hard time imagining her sticking around for too long after the election unless, God forbid, she becomes first lady. OTH,, nothing that SHOULD embarrass the Donald does, so any shame at HIM dumping HER wouldn't occur to him.

"They say when you do this kind of event, you always start out with a self-deprecating joke," he said.

"Some people think this would be tough for me, but the truth is I'm actually a modest person." (Laughter erupts). In fact, many people tell me modesty is perhaps my best quality, even better than my temperament." (Laughter again).

I'm thinking the Don was NOT making a joke, but everyone thought what he said was funny and was laughing at him, not with him.

His whole performance reeked of Bannon or Steve Stone. Men full of rage, hate, ego. Every "joke" was vicious and the one about her working on problems for 30 years and everything getting worse. Straight out of the latest attack ad. I was just thinking-the problem isn't Trump-it's his supporters who have the exact same mentality. He's a reality show whom they will turn on when he fails on all levels and they finally realize what a fraud has been perpetrated on the willing masses. I pray he takes the Republican party down with him.

Shit - it just took me back to that Vanity Fair magazine cover that featured a VERY pregnant Demi Moore, nude and proud. She was dressed only in three large jewels - one on her finger and the big boulders on her earlobes, and her arms were strategically placed to cover the most - uh - sensitive areas. I think it was Cokie Roberts or somebody who said the cover was "the most beautiful pregnant woman I've ever seen." And she was right. But while everybody was buzzing about her bare belly, beautiful curvy butt, and the hint of very large breasts peeking through her arms, I was stopped in my tracks by those earrings! WANT! I couldn't see anything else. Looked at that cover and my eyes went right there.

Same with Maria Bartiromo last night at the Al Smith Dinner. Yeah, the plunging neckline as deep as Hell's Canyon. But I couldn't help myself. My eyeballs went straight to her earrings. Little bit o' overkill, alright... Who even needs clothes when you're wearing earrings like those?

Really awkward dead silence following some of Trump's "jokes" and then the booing, too, at this event. I winced at the crassness of his supposedly funny statements, too. Booing and catcalls! I thought I was imagining it at first. But by Jove there were people booing and catcalling!

Hillary, on the other hand, had some genuinely funny moments and then some rather impressive, even soaring oratory. Hers isn't loud, either. It's with a soft voice. Describing what we can be and who we can be. Appealing to everybody's better angels. That's what she seems to be doing. Taking Michelle Obama's "when they go low, we go high" and putting it to work. So glad she went last. Helps everyone kinda forget how jerky Trump was. She was elegant, dignified, warm, human, and very much the adult in the room. She aimed a few stingers at him, but started by poking fun at herself, and ended with a MAGNIFICENT commentary that sought to inspire and uplift, and emphasize what we are when we're at our best. She very astutely wove it into the whole idea behind the Al Smith Dinner philosophy and philanthropic efforts - how that shows us going high, rather than low.

I thought it was terrific! I thought SHE was terrific. So polished, professional, compassionate, and thoroughly presidential.

"People look at the Statue of Liberty and they see a proud symbol of our history as a nation of immigrants. A beacon of hope for people around the world. Donald sees the Statue of Liberty and sees a 4. Maybe a 5 if she loses the torch and tablet and changes her hair...Come to think of it, a good number for a woman: 45."
