Harry Reid accuses Comey of sitting on proof of Trump-Russia ties, possible Hatch Act violation
Source: CBS News
The pugilistic Reid, who plans to retire after finishing out this term in Congress, penned a blistering letter to Comey Sunday, accusing the FBI chief of holding back explosive information about Donald Trumps close Russian ties while possibly violating the Hatch Act by reviving the Clinton email investigation.
Your actions in recent months have demonstrated a disturbing double standard for the treatment of sensitive information, with what appears to be a clear intent to aid one political party over another, Reid wrote, adding that through Comeys partisan actions, you may have broken the law.
One example Reid posited of the selective approach: Comeys methods in investigating Donald Trump and his campaigns possible ties to the Russian government.
In my communications with you and other top officials in the national security community, it has become clear that you possess explosive information about close ties and coordination between Donald Trump, his top advisors, and the Russian government - a foreign interest openly hostile to the United States, which Trump praises at every opportunity, he said. I wrote to you months ago calling for this information to be released to the public...and yet, you continue to resist calls to inform the public of this critical information.

(18,652 posts)even "moderate" ones like Comey are back-stabbing assholes with a repuke/conservative agenda. To me that means criminality, insanity, violence, cutting necessary services and infrastructure repairs, sex trafficking and so on.

(4,642 posts)were holding back, maybe taking the high road knowing the info would eventually come out after the election, not wanting to play the Comey game. But, now that Comey has played his politically motivated hand those in the know may find it in everyone's best interest to spill the beans on Trump, the political Coup de gras.

(44,973 posts)Read Reid's letter. Reid admits he was wrong when he fought to have Comey become director of FBI.

(3,605 posts)... the former Campaign Chairman. He himself is in legal trouble, because he was a foreign lobbyist an never registered as such with the U.S. Which is a felony.
"Under federal law, U.S. lobbyists must declare publicly if they represent foreign leaders or their political parties and provide detailed reports about their actions to the Justice Department. A violation is a felony and can result in up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000."

After that story broke in August, Manafort was fired, and the media yawned. But the revelation sparked an investigation into Manaforts activities, and that is what I think Reid is talking about.
Clinton didn't make a big deal out of it (possibly because the Podesta Group was also involved), so the Democrats are not exactly angels:
"The founder and chairman of the Podesta Group, Tony Podesta, is the brother of longtime Democratic strategist John Podesta, who now is campaign chairman for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton."

(34,438 posts)There is reason to believe that Trump has neither the assets nor the income he claims to have. Given his huge debt load, SOMEONE has propped him up with an expectation that favors would be repaid, or loaned him money, and US lenders very likely weren't the source.

I have been impressed with Hillary's campaign management this cycle. I think it's likely they were savvy enough to hold onto an oppo dump for the last week before the election. My hope, anyway

Let's not have such a FLAGRANT double standard here, since you do work for the JUSTICE Department (for the time being, anyway). Sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander.
