Seoul not to go ahead on whaling: Carr

Australia's Foreign Affairs Minister Bob Carr has been told that South Korea is not going ahead with scientific whaling.

Senator Carr held talks on whaling today with the Korean Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan, at today's East Asia Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Mr Kim told Senator Carr that Korea would take the advice of the International Whaling Commission on the subject, indicating that plans for scientific whaling would not proceed, Senator Carr said in a statement.

Senator Carr praised the leadership of the Republic of Korea in making this decision.
