Three former White House press secretaries issue warnings for press relations under Trump

Last edited Sun Jan 1, 2017, 09:48 PM - Edit history (1)

Source: Politico

Trump and the press are going to be at odds this year. Spicer is saying he might not even have to do press conferences.

Now three former white house press secretaries issue warnings about the potential interaction between the press and the Trump admin.

This may not end well but its certainly going to be an interesting ride.

excerpt from former Bush communications director Nicolle Wallace.

"I think we're staring at trees and missing the forest, Wallace said. "We've just elected a man who bullies female reporters at his rally as an applause line. We have just elected a man who started a hot war with a female anchor instead of attending a debate she moderated. We are in a new place. And I don't think it's good. And I don't think it has any parallels to the past."

And it's who likes him. He is not well mentally, and we should scream this out. Or the Psychiatrists who commented on him already need to scream it out.

It WILL lead you astray, and you WILL get rolled. Again. Bank on it.

Take two JAY ROSEN columns and you might feel better in the morning. Better still if the dumb-ass gullible press, with its presidential kneepads at the ready, reads it too. And then takes note.

The difference is, Bernie had class and conscience and knew how to work the press and his colleagues. Trump has neither of those qualities, nor can he remember what he's said from one hour to the next. His tweeting allows him to control the narrative - as opposed to having to field questions from the press corps. As much as I worry about what the GOP is going to do to us, what is really scary is what this maniac is gonna subject us to. I'd personally rather die from anything but a nuclear Armageddon, but we have CIC that figures if we have nukes, we should USE nukes.

the press, for the most part, reported facts that the public doesn't want to believe. Just doesn't fit in with their fantasy of what the country should be about.

People like Rove and Ailes saw this and created their own fake news site - Faux, err,, Fox News.

They paint a picture that those who can't handle the actual truth can believe in, an alternate reality where they are a persecuted, victimized group of patriots who will have their day again and that day is almost upon us.

Going to be interesting.

Its infuriating. Most of us deplored the MSM during the Bush years how they refused to cover any other angle than pro-war, and had ex-Generals that were heavily invested in the weapons industry on as their expert guests, and rarely, if ever had on any anti-war guest.

That carried on as they did a horrible job when the heath insurance debates were on. We had to pay to watch a Michael Moore movie to find out about other options and exactly how the public option worked in other countries.

There are many other examples. Including allowing right wing "guests" to loudly shout and talk over other guests and hosts, and having on twice as many Republicans than Democrats.

But then you add the distrust of the deplorables who are brainwashed by the 24/7 hate radio stations about the "librul media" to the point that any criticism of Republicans, or report on economic success by a Democrat, is all lies if it comes from these major networks.

They have shat in both beds. And there is a crossover with independents who share both reasons, including the coverup of many facts surrounding 9/11, but that's another thread.

I think Trump may not ever give a traditional press conference. For one he is self-aware enough to know that he does not want to be embarrased by a question on a topic that he knows very little about (which is substantial). But also because like was said, he can control the narrative if he will only speak on Fox News, Twitter, Breitbart, and the Free Republic. And he can call the traditional papers "fake news" and his base will say they don't need to read those traditional news sources anymore.

Keep the truth, by rejecting "msm", everything, including the rancid truth, becomes "fake" and unbelievable. We shoot ourselves in the feet, pretty much either way. Phase 1 or 2 or whatever, of putin's plan is complete.

The sooner, the better. Sometimes the only way to fix something is to let it break completely.

So let this boorish buffoon self-immolate in the most spectacular way possible.

That way it will be undeniable to everyone except his tribe of dead-enders that he's the worst possible person to have as our chief executive and kick his ass out of the oval office; hopefully by way of being frog-marched in handcuffs.

I am the only one who sees this as the most non transparent administration our country has ever had. I am not worried about the fact that trump escaped to go golfing without anybody knowing but the new laws that are hurtful to humans that we will wake up to in the morning not knowing they were even being considered in the first place. How long are we going to be allowed to be on this site with dictator Trump? Am I being overly paranoid?

I'm not saying there aren't any decent journalists or news reporters left in our country anymore... We just don't happen to have news agencies who want the truth exposed. It's not about who brings the truth, but rather who beings the profit.

18. Interview with kicked out author Harry Hurt III
Mon Jan 2, 2017, 01:40 AM

http://sagharboronline.com/conversation-harry-hurt-iii/

He had some tough words for you personally: How did you react when he branded you “vindictive,” a “failed writer,” a “dummy dope,” an “unattractive guy” and a “guy without much talent”?

I laughed my dummy dope head off. As the old saying goes, consider the source: a tangerine-topped Teflon man without a plan whose first ex-wife swore he [allegedly] raped her while he was bankrupting his casinos and real estate holdings. What he said about me are the typical slurs of a schoolyard bully. The New York Times ran a lengthy list several months ago citing the people Donald has offended and what he said about them. I was proud to be on the list. Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. Nah, nah, nah!

In business, is he a phenomenal, unbridled success or is he a huckster and flimflam artist? Or is it more nuanced?

Donald Trump is the greatest self-promoter in the history of American capitalism. He’s had some business successes and just as many if not more failures. His highest and best use is as a reality TV show host, which is probably the greatest source of his cash flow in recent years. Many of the properties that currently bear his name are deals done in partnership with outside investors to whom I would say, caveat emptor.

... it's a stupid place. It's a dangerous place. It's a place where cowards hide.

"New" just makes it sound normal -- "Oh, my, isn't this interesting?" -- instead of the quite un-American situation it is.

And anyhow, it's not really even "new," since many autocrats and dictators have sought to hide everything they do and get rid of a free press... Gee, Russia comes to mind. What a coincidence...
