Inauguration parade announcer since 1957 replaced
Source: UPI
Brotman, 89, learned in an email Thursday that he won't work his 17th parade on Jan. 20 for the 45th president. The job doesn't pay anything.
"I'm disappointed," Brotman told The Washington Post. "I know I can do it. I know that I've done it many many times. They ask me every time and it's such an honor."
For 60 years, he has described the parade on Inauguration Day for 11 presidents, starting with Dwight Eisenhower's second term. He worked the first televised parade in 1949 for Harry S. Truman as one of several students from the National Academy of Broadcasting in Washington.

So many things dying off with this new admin: democracy, decorum, traditions....

I fully expect them to start kicking the dog.

(26,080 posts)and it actually doesnt read like there is anything nefarious going on here as the job doesnt pay anything and Brotman is being given a prime seat at the inauguration and is even quoted as saying
"I want [Ray] to do good," Brotman said in an interview with WJLA-TV. "As opposed to, boy, I hope he fouls up so they say, 'We want Charlie back.' No. I don't want that at all."
He added, "I'm saying, 'You know what? Good luck, young man. I hope you do spectacular.'"
So a hat tip to Mr. Brotman as he is handling this like a gentleman in my opinion.

(58,724 posts)I was demoralized, absolutely demoralized, Brotman told BuzzFeed News on Sunday, a few days after finding out that he would no longer be the presidents announcer.
Ive been doing this for 60 years and for somebody to take over the announcing duties from me, I was devastated, he said.
I was expecting a pat on the back. Instead, I got a kick in the butt!

He also says he doesn't know if he is accepting the "prime seat" at the inauguration.

(455 posts)1) The replacement is a Trump supporter who has some announcer work in the past for some form of sportsball. I don't care enough to remember which.
2) Brotman, showing true class, wished his replacement well despite being very hurt by the sudden change.
3) Brotman apparently has invites to be announcer for events that day and is considering doing so. (I don't think that bit was in the link, but on a blurb on Jezebel. http://jezebel.com/trump-replaces-veteran-inauguration-announcer-with-one-1790962805)
Good for him! I hope he takes them up on their offers. This will probably be his last inauduration day, given his advanced age. Imo, he should have been allowed one last go out of respect but, hey- we all know how much respect Trump is capable of showing to anyone other than himself.

(14,893 posts)He is handling the situation with dignity and grace, but in a previous report you could tell he was crestfallen. He also seemed blindsided by being given the heave-ho at the last minute, after having already invited friends and family for the event on the assumption that he would once again be the announcer.

(455 posts)After that many decades of doing the job, giving him more than a few days notice (and say a phone call instead of an impersonal email) would have been the bare minimum of polite, responsible behavior.
But yeah. Trump can't manage that much. No shocker there.

Inauguration Announcer Says He Felt Like 'Committing Suicide' After Drumpf Fired Him via Email
I shouldn't be surprised with the Tangeranus' pettiness, but each day brings a new surprise. Like an advent calendar that's four years long, and each day's door opens to reveal a little box of crap.

(455 posts)I hope you don't mind if I steal that advent calendar line for use elsewhere. Brilliant and spot on.

(28,202 posts)They could have at least presented Mr. Brotman with some sort of emeritus designation, with a proper send-off---but as I said, that would require class and decency. What a bunch of no-account thugs they are.

(22,772 posts)this is the thing that's making me despair the deepest. This is so petty and unnecessary and very very cruel. THIS tells you everything you need to know about Trump. Trump doesn't deserve him. Hopefully he will be available to officiate the next inauguration parade for the next legitimate president.
