Robert Kennedy Jr. says he will chair "vaccination safety" committee for Trump

Source: CBS

President-elect Donald Trump met with Robert Kennedy Jr., a prominent vaccine skeptic, on Tuesday. According to incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer, the two discussed “the issues pertaining to vaccines and immunizations.”

After the meeting concluded, Kennedy told reporters that Mr. Trump had asked him to “chair a commission on vaccination safety and scientific integrity.” Kennedy said he told Mr. Trump he would chair such a commission, and that their meeting was held at Mr. Trump’s request.

Kennedy, the eldest son of liberal icon Sen. Robert Kennedy, was best known as an environmental advocate before increasingly devoting his time to the supposed dangers of vaccines.

Mr. Trump has repeatedly shared his belief that there is a link between vaccines and autism.

What a scumbag this guy turned out to be - as if his horrendous treatment of his ex-wife on the level of John Edwards scumbaggery wasn't enough.

Trump had actually backed away from anti-vaxxer lunacy a little, but here comes Bobby to reinforce his tinfoil hattery.

Vaccine skeptic Robert Kennedy Jr. says Trump asked him to lead commission on ‘vaccine safety’

By Abby Phillip and Lena H. Sun

@abbydphillip

@bylenasun

January 10 at 3:45 PM

Donald Trump asked Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a proponent of a widely discredited theory that vaccines cause autism, to chair a new commission on vaccine safety and scientific integrity, according to Kennedy. ... The stunning move would contradict established science, medicine and the government’s position on the issue. It comes after Trump — who has long been critical of vaccines — met at Trump Tower with Kennedy, who has spearheaded efforts to roll back child vaccination laws.
....

{The origins of Donald Trump’s autism/vaccine theory and how it was completely debunked eons ago}

Speaking to reporters in the lobby of Trump Tower in New York, on Tuesday, Kennedy said that Trump called him to request the meeting, and he accepted the position on the new commission. It is unclear exactly what role the commission would play.
....

The announcement was met with alarm from health professionals who say that putting a proponent of a conspiracy theory in a position of authority on this issue is dangerous.

{A horrifying reminder of what life without vaccines was really like}

“That’s very frightening, it’s difficult to imagine anyone less qualified to serve on a commission for vaccine science,” said Peter Hotez, dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, and president of the Sabin Vaccine Institute, a nonprofit that works to control, treat and eliminate vaccine-preventable and neglected tropical diseases. ... “The science is clear: massive evidence showing no link between vaccines and autism, and as both a scientist who develops vaccines for poverty related neglected diseases and the father of an adult daughter with autism, there’s not even any plausibility for a link,” Hotez continued. “Autism is a genetic condition.”

We are now down to the level of stark, raving lunatics.

Conflicts of Interest in Vaccine Safety Research
Gayle DeLong

Department of Economics and Finance, Baruch College, New York, New York, USA

Abstract
Conflicts of interest (COIs) cloud vaccine safety research. Sponsors of research have competing interests that may impede the objective study of vaccine side effects. Vaccine manufacturers, health officials, and medical journals may have financial and bureaucratic reasons for not wanting to acknowledge the risks of vaccines. Conversely, some advocacy groups may have legislative and financial reasons to sponsor research that finds risks in vaccines. Using the vaccine-autism debate as an illustration, this article details the conflicts of interest each of these groups faces, outlines the current state of vaccine safety research, and suggests remedies to address COIs. Minimizing COIs in vaccine safety research could reduce research bias and restore greater trust in the vaccine program...

I didn't think of RFK jr. in that vein but never thought a Kennedy would have anything to do with trump.

I grew up in the 1950s when there was a real fear and reality of polio. I had a wonderful friend who had it. I am totally for vaccinations. They are so important.

They kill Obamacare, which covered the vaccinations. Now the problem is solved except for the school requirement.

Wait, that's where DeVoss comes in. She changes the vax requirement for public schools.

Poor people not in charter schools get sick and die.
