Two New Reports Challenge GOP Criticism of Health Care Law

Source: Wall Street Journal

The double-digit jump in premiums this year on the health law’s exchanges was a one-time correction, and a brisk pace of sign-ups shows the marketplaces are on solid ground, the Obama administration said Tuesday in two reports that challenge Republicans’ key criticisms of the Affordable Care Act.

“Insurers’ premium and plan-design changes, together with recent policy changes, appear roughly sufficient to return premiums to a sustainable level, implying that this year’s increases were a one-time correction,” according to the report by the three-member council that advises the president on national economic policy.

A separate report released Tuesday by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services shows sign-ups for coverage on the health law’s exchanges are eclipsing last year’s pace.

The pace of sign-ups and the report on the stability of the exchanges will increase pressure on Republicans who are being urged to delay repeal. GOP leaders are moving quickly to topple parts of the ACA with a lengthy transition for writing a replacement, although President-elect Donald Trump has been increasing pressure on Republicans to vote at the same time to repeal and replace the law.

tRump will push for repeal of the ACA by whatever means possible in a plain and simple attempt to deny Pres. Obama that legacy.

axing this law has a good chance of throwing lots of people in the medical field off the payrolls. In most counties in this country, especially the rural ones, the medical care industry is among the largest employers. Less insured people = fewer people seeking medical care = job cuts.

republican idea, and they could have worked to make it better, but with the media's help they decided to demonize it, and rename it Obamacare.

Lamar Alexander has offered his replacement plan which is essentially just catastrophic insurance. The ACA minimum requirements for insurance will be taken away, and you can bet your bottom dollar that for comprehensive coverage the premiums will go up significantly. We will be left the way we were before the ACA. People will lose their health coverage because republicans care more about power than the people.

trump's HHS pick, Tom Price wants to dismantle Medicaid and Medicare, and is one of the advocates for complete repeal of the ACA. He belongs to a controversial anti-vexer group, outside the norm of the medical community

We are in very serious trouble, and I am not sure we will be able to stop these monsters, because that is what they are.
