Loretta Lynch will leave office without Eric Garner case being resolved

Source: Washington Post

Attorney General Loretta Lynch will step down without the Justice Department having charged or cleared police officers in the death of Eric Garner, whose videotaped takedown by New York City officers sparked national outrage, people familiar with the matter said.

Lynch authorized the department to move forward with the case, but made that decision so late in her tenure that lawyers and investigators could not take all the necessary steps to procure an indictment. That would entail assembling the evidence in the case and presenting it to a grand jury in order to convince the panel to return criminal charges.

The controversial case will now pass to the administration of Donald Trump and likely leave expected future attorney general Jeff Sessions with ultimate decision making authority. Sessions has said publicly he is wary of police being judged unfairly, and he is viewed as less likely to press for charges against officers involved in Garner’s death.

As well as all other wrongful police shooting/brutality cases. Frankly I don't see DoJ taking another police abuse case up until at least late 2021; it will take a Dem administration 6-9 months to expunge all the toadies that Beauregard will no doubt bring into DoJ.

I think I'm going to call JS "Beauregard" if he's confirmed.

It happened just over the bridge in Staten Island and every time I pass the area he was killed in I get chills and angry!

God bless his memory and give his family the strength to fight on!

Given how few police murders are successfully prosecuted, though, perhaps they might ultimately get more satisfaction this way. If Sessions just closes this, that may spark new outrage that will keep Eric's death a public issue and rallying cry. Hope so, anyway.

not the Michael Brown fiasco. So many lies and falsehoods in the Brown case. As in "hands up dont shoot&quot
NONE with the Garner case & on clear video as well. Much like the Randall Scott video.

Eric Garner was killed in July of 2014. She took her position in April of 2015.
