President Obama barnstormed through this swing state on Saturday as his campaign relentlessly hammered at Mitt Romneys business record, releasing a mocking new ad that shows Mr. Romney singing America the Beautiful as it accuses his former firm of shipping American jobs overseas.
Mr. Obama, speaking to a drenched crowd during a downpour in this Richmond suburb, accused Mr. Romney of investing in companies that have been called pioneers in outsourcing. He ignored Mr. Romneys demands for an apology about the campaigns tone, which the Republican candidate had called for in interviews on Friday.
My opponent and his allies in Congress, they believe in top-down economics, Mr. Obama said. If you cut through all the stuff, what they are really saying is tax cuts for the wealthy, roll back regulations. That is essentially their plan.
The presidents campaign has spent more than a week harping on Mr. Romneys personal wealth and calling on him to disclose information about his personal finances by releasing more years of his tax returns. It has also raised questions about Mr. Romneys offshore investments and accounts.

The Washington Post chose a more generic headline: "Obama supporters brave the showers in Henrico County, Va.". That article included the attendance: "Obama appeared before a crowd of about 900 outside the Walkerton Tavern, a Henrico County historic site believed to have served as a field hospital for Union cavalrymen." In 2008, 56% of voters in this county voted for Obama (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election_in_Virginia,_2008#By_county). While Henrico's county seat Richmond is in VA-3 (Robert C. Scott, D), Walkerton Tavern unfortunately is in VA-7, the district of...Eric Cantor.

(3,576 posts)He gives his speech in a downpour and he has such charisma that 900 people stand in the rain to hear him out. Mitt Mormon has to bus people to his events! Vote a straight Democratic ballot and give the President a Congress that will work for the American people.

(2,983 posts)Seeing the photos of him, standing in the rain with the big smile on his face. Watching his speaking become more passionate as the months go by... oh I am thinking I like this man more than I have for some time. It's almost like we've got the old Obama back. He's always had my vote locked down... but now, well, I almost want to get out there and put up signs, campaign, maybe even yell at some republicans.
Either way, we've got to preserve his Presidency.. Romney's questionable finances and infantile rhetoric make this more simple, but maybe I need to put back on my campaign shirt.... hmm. Keep it up, Mr. President, I'm almost ready to go back to work for you.
