This Local News Segment Shows The Obamacare Danger Ahead For Republicans

Source: Huffington Post

Popular resistance to the repeal of the Affordable Care Act has begun, with the first signal that Republicans could face major political repercussions coming from the large Denver suburb of Aurora, Colorado.

Congressman Mike Coffman, a Republican who represents the swing district there, planned a small event at a library to meet with constituents. He expected just a handful of people, but 150 individuals showed up. Most of them, according to local media reports, were present to plead with him not to go forward with an Obamacare repeal without a suitable replacement in place.

The local NBC 9 News report on the event was brutal for Coffman from start to finish, highlighting Berthie Ruoff, a breast cancer survivor who is worried she will be unable to buy insurance without the law’s protections.

“I’m going to potentially lose my health insurance. I’ve had a pre-existing condition, I’ve had breast cancer. What is going to happen to me?” she said with tears in her eyes.

They're the same people who will file for bankruptcy when their health insurance won't cover them-- and their GOP spinmeisters will tell them to blame Obama. And they will.

but that the free-market will dictate the price.

Who wants to guess how much an insurer will charge for my daughter's insurance - she uses $40.000 - $60,000 of billed care every year. Ultimately in at least one year she will need a half million, and thereafter $100,000.

Hint: It's likely to be in the range of $5,000 a month - just to cover her known current needs. No sane business would charge less - absent a mandate that caps the price.

FWIW - one month of care is 38% of her ANNUAL income.

The man simply can't be believed, he has a deep seated hatred for President Obama and he's reckless enough to push for repeal regardless of the effects it has on Americans.

Trumpy lies. That's his default position. He rarely tells the truth, and only then, he does so by mistake.

That's how he's been throughout his entire life. And you think that, now, he's open and honest? Why would you think that? He's a 70 year-old malevolent narcissistic who believes, with all of his tattered soul, that he's special, he's above the law, and that ethics is for other, less deserving people.

The second that Trumpy sees himself as just like anyone else will be the second that his heart stops beating.

If public pressure causes a few of them to delay repeal, they can go on to waste a few months wrangling over a replacement. That would allow even more public objection to replacing the ACA, and they would never get around to passing their "replacement" sham. That would be a great outcome. Anyone care to speculate on the odds? I figure we stand a fair chance of getting a few Republicans to back down.

Once they pas the replacement for the ACA, they can't scream Obama-care anymore. They then own any shortcomings in the system. It's there baby. If premiums and deductibles continue to rise, people are receiving inadequate care or just lose coverage. A lot of them believe the rhetoric that being able to buy policies across state lines and tort reform are going to make a substantial difference. The experts and studies from OMB and others don't concur with that. It's going to be interesting.

The news media spent 9+ months kissing Trump's ass and now they care? This Congressperson's opposition to the ACA is not sudden, he campaigned against it. Both he and trump are doing what they said they would do.
With respect to the news media, If someone decides that kissing Russia's ass would get them better ratings than Trump becomes a hero again, they would start speaking Russian and doing commercials for vodka.

Sorry not buying their sudden faux outrage. Why? Because a lot of this and worse has been out there for years and no one cared during the primary or the General.

Tell him they want to privatize it because the insurance companies will make big bucks..
.........all the Republicans talk about is "reducing government regulations.."...tell him that what Republicans are saying when they say that is that they will take away "Medicare" and give it to private companies...

Also...other government regulations might be removed...(that is what the Republicans are always about)....
like minimum wage laws, safety laws on cars that make them more expensive to build, certain kinds of regulatory agencies, on drugs and banks....

Ask him if he wants to have bank regulations removed so that the banjks and their friends can make more money and screw the average consumer...........................The Republicans have always been against regulatory agencies of any kind,,,so...

does he want that?...Maybe he needs to vote for the democratic candidate if he want sto protect Medicare..and also...tell him this...If he doesn't believe you, then than you will take him to the library and prove it (all the proof is there)... to him by showing him exactly how republicans have tried to remove government regulations and how they would do so now if they could...

We've talked about some of the other things but it will take the experience of making a difference in his own life to make him leave the GOP. That's one basic difference between Republicans and Democrats. The Republicans care about themselves (is that why Trump was so popular?) and Democrats care about everyone.

This guy isn't dumb, he lived in New York for many years, worked for IBM as an engineer. He and his wife were raised in Kentucky and they still have that rural white viewpoint of things. And yes, he is a racist and so is his wife. Not the kind that would ever spout off about it or be rude to anyone, the kind that tries to hide it with pointed innuendo.

Right now, they certainly don't want to give up what they have. But Medicare with a supplement and drug plan is not cheap. Without those, one serious illness would put most people in bankruptcy.

Won't happen anytime soon.

Every progressive needs to go to these meetings and make the rethugs pay for this awful vote. We fought back bush over his wanting to change sociLs ecurity. Scare the crap out of these cowards and do a show of force in opposition.

thing about the ACA and now realizing there are features very important to citizens and repealing ACA is not going to work for them. They spoke badly about Obamacare, now it will be Trumpcare. They have had plenty of time to make improvements to the ACA but chose to want to repeal.
