Trump inauguration boycott escalates
Source: BBC
A rising number of Democratic lawmakers have said they plan to boycott President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration at the US Capitol on 20 January.
More than 50 House Democrats are refusing to watch as Mr Trump is sworn in as the 45th US president amidst a feud between the newly elected president and the civil rights activist and congressman, John Lewis.
Mr Lewis, a revered member of the 1960s struggle, sparked controversy on Friday when he called Mr Trump's victory illegitimate because of Russia's alleged interference in the election.
The president-elect hit back on Twitter, attacking the Georgia lawmaker as "all talk, talk, talk - no action or results", which prompted a wave of outrage from people saying if anyone embodied action, it was the 76-year-old.

(22,665 posts)I can read about it after the fact. But I refuse to tune in and give ratings to this despicable power-grab brought to us through coercion, dirty tricks, fake news, false propaganda and our M$M playing their horserace game too close for comfort and losing the election for the one person who should be leading our country in these troubled times, Hillary Rodham Clinton.
For love of country, I cannot watch.

(5,810 posts)of history and the work of an iconic figure in the Civil Rights Movement. Anyone who supports Mr. Lewis should not attend the inauguration as a show of respect and support for him. tRump has already poo pooed in his mess kit as far as I am concerned. He set the terms for how he would serve as President and it is not acceptable.
Furthermore, there is far too much uncertainty and controversy surrounding his campaign and the 2016 Election. Until that is explained and cleared up, no Inauguration should be held. If tRump is implicated in the hacking and influence of the election, he and Pence should not be inaugurated. It may cause a Constitutional crisis, but so be it. tRump caused all of this and should have to pay the price, up to and including being charged with Treason for colluding with the Russians.

(2,559 posts)I figure it's up to the representative or senator to make that decision for themselves.
After all, boycotting the event is purely symbolic. It won't change anything materially. Trump will still be out new president.
For myself, I'm going to go media dark on Friday. I won't tune into network news (including PBS), and my online activities will avoid any news sites as best I can.
Moreover, I don't want to hear Trump's whiny lying voice on that day. It would be nice never to hear it again, but that might not be possible.
Not that I hate Mr. Trump. He's not worth that much energy. I just regard him as a cosmic joke.
