Petition calling for release of Donald Trump's tax returns reaches 100,000 needed for White House response

A petition calling for the immediate release of Donald Trump's tax returns has reached the 100,000 signatures needed to prompt a White House response.

The petition, posted to the White House's official website on Friday, demands for the new President to "immediately release (his) full tax returns, with all information needed to verify emoluments clause compliance."

It states: "The unprecedented economic conflicts of this administration need to be visible to the American people, including any pertinent documentation which can reveal the foreign influences and financial interests which may put Donald Trump in conflict with the emoluments clause of the Constitution."

The White House petitions web page states that if a petition obtains 100,000 signatures within 30 days, the administration will issue an “official update” within 60 days.

Took less than 24 hours to reach that number, which doesn't surprise me.

However...

Trump's already shut down tweeting by federal agencies because he couldn't cope with them tweeting photos of the dismal crowds for his inaugural.

Any guesses as to how long the WH petitions page will be there?

Especially with the petitions page now including a new petition demanding that Trump resign because he's in violation of the emoluments clause:

But that's why I quick-clicked over and signed the petition while I could. Not that beheading the Rough Beast would oust it from power now, of course.

Forget it people. What you think doesn't matter anymore. Our hopes and dreams rest on 2 things: the dim bulbs suddenly realizing everything he's doing hurts them and a Russian connection that shows Trump's empire is being bankrolled by Vlad and his buddies.

with 99,999 to go. I think they screwed with the page already. I signed it, got the 'verification' email, clicked on it, got confirmation. Then I checked the petition again and it still shows 1 signature and 99,999 to go.

And so it goes. From a Democracy to an Autocracy in less than 24 hours.

I am afraid you are right. I know several people tried to sign and the page either went blank or didn't accept the signature.

He has no interest in entertaining dissent. Either you like what he's doing or you don't exist.

Bye, bye, feedback loop. Hello tyranny.

Hopefully because it was bogged down by others. Yep..others here are right, the CABAL will quickly remove the petition page just like they did the button at the bottom of the home page to read the White House web site in Spanish.

A 100% chance that it will be removed. And in order to address the expected outrage from the removal, their Ministry of Information will quickly come up with a new, propagandized version with slickly marketed fluff, that will be designed to generate pre-selected automated replies (when they feel like it) depending on the subject. I think DU can easily come up with something akin to Magic 8-ball responses like -

"We have a really great plan I tell you! Just wait and we will present it soon!!1!!"
"We are discussing this now because crooked Hillary..."
"Don't worry, we promised that we will Make America Great Again™!!1!!1"
"This will take time because we have to get rid of the bad Obama regulations first but...!!!11!!!"

That he reported a $916 million loss. Maybe those three pages were leaked (obtained by the New York Times) because they are the most significant development in the past few decades in the eyes of the leaker, or maybe that's all the leaker could get his/her hands on.

Damn, we should be able to judge for ourselves! He has been hiding behind this supposed audit for so long and even that is not a legit reason to withhold his returns from being made public, which presidential candidates have done for 40 years.

The man is such a liar. Saying he would release them but now that he's in power he says the people don't want to see them. The proof? He was elected, therefore the people don't care if they ever see his tax returns! What a two-faced jackass!

Here's a couple of other instances where he outright lied:

Tax returns: At the height of his birther crusade in 2011, Trump offered a challenge to President Barack Obama: if the commander-in-chief released his long-form birth certificate, Trump would put out his tax returns. Obama did release a long-form birth certificate, after which point Trump told ABC that he would release his taxes "at the appropriate time." That time never came.

Tax returns again: In January Trump said on Meet the Press that he would release his tax returns imminently. "We're working on that now," he said. "I have big returns, as you know, and I have everything all approved and very beautiful and we'll be working that over in the next period of time." But after a month passed and he still hadn't produced his tax returns, Trump said at a Republican primary debate that he couldn't release his tax returns because he was under audit. (The IRS has said that an audit would not prevent Trump from releasing the returns.) Running mate Mike Pence and top surrogate Ben Carson have both said Trump will release the returns at "the appropriate time."
