Women's marches draw estimated 3M people across US
Source: The Hill
At least 3 million people participated in marches across the country to protest President Trump on Saturday, according to a review of official and unofficial estimates from the nation's largest cities.
Half a million people showed up on the National Mall and nearby streets for the Women's March on Washington, according to city officials, for an event that spurred similar demonstrations in several major cities.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority said nearly 600,000 people had used the capital's Metro system by 4 p.m., ridership that eclipsed not only Friday's inauguration of Trump, but also the 2013 inauguration, when Barack Obama was sworn in to a second term.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's office said Saturday night that at least 400,000 had protested in Manhattan, while organizers in Boston and Chicago each claimed to have some of the largest turnout in the nation.

(19,558 posts)I feel empowered again. I feel validated, and like we matter. Which we do, of course, but I'd been beginning to feel even more marginalized recently.
I've got my stride, my power back. I'm 100% back in control of my destiny, and it won't be what those assholes (my apologies, but the language keeps me focused) decree it will to be.
We are a record setting level of people rising up against Trump. We have a voice, and we will be heard!

for representing your fellow Washingtonians who couldn't make it.

(27,800 posts)It was massive. We got lucky because the start point was overflowing and we couldn't get all the way in. We ended up being near the front of the march, which went on for five hours. KIRO said 150K. Both numbers are way higher than predictions.

(15,411 posts)Odd that the media reporting his big day was poorly attended caused him to become so unplugged. Remember we were told the parade would be shorter (for some damned reason) so they know they are lying.
Does he think we are some piano salesmen he can lie to and get away with it because he holds all the cards.
Would be nice if he ever came to realize he doesn't have as much power or support as he thinks/needs. But he won't.

(50,935 posts)There were 26 blocks (one mile and about a third) of wall to wall people marching from noon till seven at night. They staggered our starting times, and the streets were jammed for the entire seven hours.
Based on that, I bet it was a lot more than three million.

(87 posts)We must keep protesting, signing petitions, calling legislators, writing letters to show we don't support this Dummkopf-in-chief. And given his penchant for tweeting, let's tweet out our protests too. The truth will out, but the more visual the evidence (photos from the rallies, etc.) the harder it will be for him to keep at his lies and get others to believe him.
