In Russia, giving one's spouse a slap is nothing extraordinary for many people. This week, the Russian parliament is expected to take a step closer toward decriminalizing it altogether.

Battery is a criminal offense in Russia, but nearly 20 percent of Russians openly say they think it is sometimes OK to hit a spouse or a child. In a bid to accommodate conservative voters, deputies in the lower house of parliament have given initial approval to a bill eliminating criminal liability for domestic violence that stops short of serious bodily harm or rape.

One of the things that just pisses me off to no end these days is how the narrative of being a "liberal" or being a "progressive" in too many circles has become an insult. Also too often used by people who have benefited so damn much by liberal and progressive causes.

It was only 1920.. less than 100 years ago that women couldn't even vote until the ratification of the 19th amendment to the US Constitution. Thank you liberals and progressives of the early 1900's!!!

It was only 1936 that the issuing of birth control information was no longer considered legally obscene material. Than you liberals and progressives of the 1930's!!!

It was only 1969.. less than 50 years ago that no fault divorces were legalized allowing women to get divorced without blame for causing the disolution of the marriage. Thank you liberals and progressives of the 1960's!!!

1976 - ONLY 40 short years ago did the first state enact laws making it illegal for a husband to rape his wife. The first law that even recognized that a husband CAN rape his wife. THINK ABOUT THIS!!! ONLY 40 years ago a man could rape his wife and face no legal consequence for it! Thank you liberals and proressives of the 1970's!!!!

These are only SOME of the GREAT things that us awful liberals and progressives have helped make a reality in this country in just ONE area, namely womens rights.
