Trump freezes federal hiring

Source: Washington Post

President Trump issued executive orders Monday freezing federal hiring. The hiring freeze excludes national security employees.

A hiring freeze was included in the Trump presidential campaign’s “Contract with the American Voter.” It was the second of six measures “to clean up the corruption and special interest collusion in Washington, D.C.” and part of his “100-day action plan to Make America Great Again.”

The plan excludes the “military, public safety, and public health.”

the vast majority of NPS and USDAFS workers are seasonal temps. If the freeze affects that group, the parks and most camping areas will be closed due to lack of sufficient staff to protect the resources from the masses.

It's interesting they are in the service area, make way more than somebody in my state would make because all the money in DC and all the gov't employees who hire them. Yet they go on about gov't spending and stuff. Weird.

I worked for 30 years adjudicating Social Security Disability claims. When we had democrats in he office we were always allowed to hire more people, caseloads were lower and in general it was good.

When republicans were in office they usually would not let us hire so with attrition we'd have these huge spikes in caseloads. Also they would change the regs to deny more people and then would send all these cases back to us to be re adjudicated. Burying us in cases.

One thing I always knew. If a republican was elected it meant work more work!

My son was on SSDI, then he started working. He told SS that he was working and told them to stop his checks. My son had been through several work trials previously and had accumulated his trial months. They didn't stop his checks, so after 2 months he calls them. They told him that they were so short staffed that they couldn't stop his checks because everything had to be processed. They told him to put the money aside as overpaid benefits. He started working in October 2015 and it took them almost a year to send him the letter informing that he was no longer disabled effective October 2015.

But my son is just one case. He had been there, done that before with overpayments and knew to put them aside. There are cases where recipients are surprised that they owe SS $50,000 and they haven't put the money aside. Those debts, for the most part will be forgiven. So, our treasury is being short changed because they SS is short staffed.

We were allowed to hire a ton of people. They said so many of our agencies employees were retirement age that they wanted to make sure we had enough once they retired.

The sad part was that was 2009. By the time I retired in 2015 we had lost a TON of those people. Salaries were so low and because of all the budget battles no raises that the people moved on. So I'm not sure how successful the plan was.

The money Fed Employees put into the economy (just like any other employee/consumer) are vital.

This is based on the belief that government workers don't do anything.

Really bad decision.
