Trump to visit Philadelphia for GOP retreat Thursday

Updated: January 23, 2017 1:59 PM EST

{Trump} is scheduled to address Congressional Republicans who will be meeting at the Loews hotel in Center City Wednesday through Friday for their annual retreat this time gathering with the power to advance an ambitious agenda.
....

Demonstrations are expected, including one set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Thomas Paine Plaza across from City Hall to protest against the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. Police have no yet announced any street closings or other measures for the president's visit.
....

Liberal groups, meanwhile, are planning protests in response to Trump's visit, hoping to build on the energy of the women's marches across the country on Saturday. The scheduled events include a Thursday morning workshop, an 11 a.m. march and rally at Thomas Paine Plaza outside City Hall, and plans for a rally outside the Loews that afternoon, starting at 4 p.m.

I would not be surprised if they got there on Amtrak. They often travel by rail.

I will check Trainorders to see what trains are in store.

Both parties hold these retreats every year. Here's a schedule of this year's retreats:

He supposed to be, like, working for everyone.
Not just those that are like himself.

In Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the ones that galloped behind King Arthur as he went on his adventures and sang of his "accomplishments".

But these people follow behind Trump with a flashing "APPLAUSE" sign and a PA system that supplements them with prerecorded cheers.

I bet he costs us a fortune with travel because he hates hanging at White House doing what he will consider boring stuff like meeting with people and pretending to be nice.

I am glad there will be protests. The hotel they are going to be in is in the old PSFS (Philadelphia Savings Fund Society) building that had been converted into a mixed use (hotel/apartments/condos/retail) -

As "modern" as it looks, it was dramatic when it was built in 1932 (first of its kind) when the predominate style was art deco. It is on the National Historic Landmark list. When the bank was still in existence, it was the first all-savings bank in the U.S. (and this building became its HQ in the early 20th century). The bank was still around when I was in school and they had savings accounts available to children. They set up a system where kids could act as "bankers" for other kids in the class who wanted to deposit money via a passbook (there was a little machine right in the school, that was used to register the deposit on a passbook page).

As a sidenote, the building in the above pic to the left in the foreground is a federal courthouse (bankruptcy & Immigration) - the Robert N.C. Nix Federal building (it used to be a post office along with a courthouse). It was built 5 years after the PSFS building and represents the typical building style of the era. IMHO, they need to roll the lot of them in there.

Also the current Nor'easter has shut down Amtrak service between Philly and NYC, since Amtrak was mentioned here.
