The Latest: Spicer says 20 percent tax just an option

Source: Star Tribune

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer now says slapping a 20 percent tax on imports from Mexico is just one of several options on the table for paying for a wall along the southern border.

Spicer says President Donald Trump has yet to make a final decision about how the U.S. will recoup the costs of his proposed border wall.

Spicer had said earlier Thursday that Trump wanted to slap a 20 percent tax on all imports from Mexico and predicted the tax would generate $10 billion a year.

-snip-

But Trump's chief of staff Reince Priebus said later that the administration has "a buffet of options" to pay for the wall.

Paul Krugman's response to this:

Now, according to Twitter, Spicer is saying that it was just a thought. Oh my God. These are spoiled children playing with loaded guns.

The whole amateur crew, starting with the Mango Mussolini and on down, are just making stuff up.

As another poster said, tRump wrote about this in his book "The Art of the Deal" that by throwing lots of balls in the air it confuses the other side and then if that doesn't work, throw more into the air.

The thing is, Trump is not shafting NYC contractors for a couple hundred K here and $2 million there. It's several leagues higher than his own league and there are many players and lots of collateral damage.

Spicer had said earlier Thursday that Trump wanted to slap a 20 percent tax on all imports from Mexico and predicted the tax would generate $10 billion a year.

That would indicate that these geniuses are estimating annual imports from Mexico to be about $50 billion a year.

Someone should show them how to use Google to look up statistics that are readily available from the US Federal Government.

Oh, that's right - they are the US Federal Government. That makes it infinitely more complicated

Going after companies for H-1B abuse I could understand because they are only supposed to be used if and only if a company cant find someone here qualified already for the job but alot of companies instead are only using it to shop for someone from overseas that they can pay a lower wage to than what they would have to pay to citizen with the same qualifications but Trump doesnt seem to be doing that rather he is picking on the weakest and poorest because he knows they cant fight back.

If there's one possible positive thing that might come out of the plethora of idiotic ideas flowing from the Trump administration, it's that maybe, just maybe, a significant number of low-information voters will be thoroughly disabused of the idea that rich people are rich because they're smarter than the rest of us.
