Steve Bannon personally overruled DHS decision not to include green card holders in travel ban: CNN

Steve Bannon, a senior adviser to President Donald Trump, personally overruled a decision by the Department of Homeland Security not to include green card holders in the president’s temporary ban on travel from Muslim countries.

Protests erupted at airports across the country over the weekend after DHS agents began enforcing an executive order signed by Trump by detaining legal permanent residents who were returning from abroad. On Saturday, a federal judge stayed the detentions and ordered the green card holders to be released, but CNN reported that the mayhem could have been avoided if the White House had listened to the guidance of DHS lawyers in the first place.

Documents obtained by CNN showed that DHS initially determined that “lawful permanent residents are not included and may continue to travel to the USA.” But Bannon personally intervened to counter the guidance from DHS lawyers.

“The White House overruled that guidance overnight, according to officials familiar with the rollout,” the CNN report said. “That order came from the President’s inner circle, led by Stephen Miller and Steve Bannon. Their decision held that, on a case by case basis, DHS could allow green card holders to enter the US.”

and everywhere. Trump has a huge ego and he needs to be thoroughly humilated as being nothing more then a puppet being controlled by Bannon. A wedge needs to be developed between Trump and Bannon big enough to get Bannon tossed out, for all of our sakes.

BannonTrump regime. I would like to see that meme go viral: that this is Bannon's presidency and Trump is just the (very) junior partner in it.

Because downgrading Trump's status would infuriate him!

anything to do with trying to understand them. It has to do with the press doing its job and informing the public about who is running the country.

Trials at the Hague are a very nice idea. Meanwhile, we need to do what we can in the real world.

Controversy gives Trumpy the illusion that he's getting something done. Where there's drama, Trumpy is in his element. Problem solving is secondary to drama. Bannon's dictatorial habits fit Trumpy like a glove. Bannon can issue decrees, have Trumpy sign them, and then Trumpy can say that all is well when he's creating massive upheavals. Trumpy loves this stuff. Lives don't matter. Drama matters. And Bannon? He has a whole different agenda. He hates US Constitutional law and wants to destroy it. That's who is now on the National Security Council, promoted to that position by... Trumpy.

How are those Fanboys doing? Feeling better that the maniac who admires Lenin is taking over? I bet you are.

You're correct, Trumpolini eats this stuff up. Makes him feel like he's "doing something." And he is: he's ruining people's lives.

I put representative in quotes because it's Robert Pittenger and he certainly doesn't represent me. But he carries the title...
Anyway I told him as politely as possible that Mr Trump and Mr Bannon are "wiping their nether regions" with the US Constitution.

Hopefully if enough of us get in their faces, Congress will do their job, and overrule the fascists currently occupying the Executive Branch.

doing it. That is 'action' as he sees it. Actual policy/action takes second place so he leaves it to someone else. Very dangerous. Especially with Bannon.

On Saturday, a federal judge stayed the detentions and ordered the green card holders to be released,

Not in any of the 3 federal judge rulings that I'm aware of (New York, Virginia, Washington state).

The deportations were stayed, but nothing was said about ending detentions and releasing anybody in any of these orders.

What do we need to do to get millions of people to demand that Republicans impeach Trump before he destroys this country and its position in the world? Will the millions of men and women who joined the Women's March and the protesters this weekend (and last week in Philadelphia) all come together again to insist that Trump be impeached? There are certainly conflict-of-interest reasons. His ban on Muslims in countries other than those that have Trump properties is clearly intended to protect and advance his financial interests. I know many people think Pence could be worse, but surely he cannot be worse than Trump and the destructive people in his immediate circle. He has loosed Bannon on our democracy and it may not survive.

Going after legal residents was the wrong move. They have woken up a lot of people and lots are getting to know Steve Bannon. They would have been better off not trying to use this ban as a smoke screen. In my opinion it shines a light on him.
