White House discussing asking foreign visitors for social media info and cell phone contacts

Source: CNN

By Jake Tapper, Anchor and Chief Washington Correspondent
Updated 9:58 AM ET, Sun January 29, 2017

Washington (CNN)Amid the chaos and confusion of President Donald Trump's new executive order on immigration and refugees, sources tell CNN that White House policy director Stephen Miller spoke with officials of the State Department, Customs and Border Patrol, Department of Homeland Security and others to tell them that the President is deeply committed to the executive order and the public is firmly behind it -- urging them not to get distracted by what he described as hysterical voices on TV.

Miller also noted on Saturday that Trump administration officials are discussing the possibility of asking foreign visitors to disclose all websites and social media sites they visit, and to share the contacts in their cell phones. If the foreign visitor declines to share such information, he or she could be denied entry. Sources told CNN that the idea is just in the preliminary discussion level. The social media posts calling for jihad by San Bernardino terrorist Tashfeen Malik -- made under a pseudonym and with strict privacy settings -- are part of this discussion. How such a policy would be implemented remains under discussion.

Miller praised the State Department on Saturday, sources tell CNN, but argued that the government needs to do better job of making sure the people who come into the US embrace American values.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer did not respond to a request for comment.

I'm a US born citizen, and I don't embrace many of America's current "values." When will they be wanting me to provide access to my social media accounts and cell phone so that they can deny me re-entry into the US?

none of those are my pics, or my accounts. I don't use that moniker anywhere else.

We are flying into Amsterdam in April and leaving out of Bern to come back in May. I never even considered that this could happen. With DU, Daily KOS NYT and WaPost on my cell phone, they might try to keep me out. Now I and my husband are white and about to retire so not part of targeted folks, and hopefully this is pure BS, anyway. Guess I need to donate to ACLU NOW. The people they defend could be us.

Welcome to trumpland, the 4th reich.

I'm so angry right now.

Dear President Bannon:

My name is neeksgeek, and I'm active on Democratic Underground and Instagram. I'm also active on a photography forum under a different name. I'm not on Facebook anymore because I got tired of all the badly-targeted ads asking me, a man who is married to a Mexican-American, to "click here to meet hot Latinas!"

I've got contacts in my iPhone who are liberals, social workers, academics, LBGT, and even a few Mexican-Americans. At one point in time, I was the administrative assistant to a professor who is from Iran. If you examine my Internet usage from a few years back, you'll find that I once dated a Lebanese woman who was in the US on (gasp!) a student visa (she was Greek Orthodox, but still).

Of course, I understand that since I'm a liberal I'm not a real American and therefore am also lazy, satanic AND atheistic (nevermind the obvious contradiction there), and also clearly on welfare, on drugs, et cetera (I'm a liberal, but not actually any of those other things, but I thought your preconceived notions needed a little boost).

Anyway, I hope this information will help you Make America White Anglo-Saxon Protestant Again.
