(Reuters) - Five people were killed after gunmen opened fire in a Quebec City mosque during evening prayers, the mosque's president told reporters on Sunday.

Earlier, a witness told Reuters that up to three gunmen fired on about 40 people inside the Quebec City Islamic Cultural Center.

Quebec City Police say several people are dead after shots were fired inside a Quebec City mosque on Sunday night.

Multiple people are also feared wounded, according to CBC's French-language service Radio-Canada.

Their condition is not known at this time.

A few dozen people were inside the Islamic cultural centre of Quebec in the Sainte-Foy neighbourhood when the shooting began just after 8 p.m.

Quebec City Police Constable Étienne Doyon said mostly men were gathered at the mosque for evening prayers.

The director of the centre said at least five people were killed, but that information has not been confirmed by police.

Two suspects have been arrested.

I went to visit FR then. I've hardly been there at all, not like during the election when it was sport to see them all agitated.

On Saturday they were shitting on Trudeau and Canada and Canadians for their compassionate announcement supporting Muslims in the face of Trump's immigration / travel ban. They said that Canadians would change their tune after the first time being attacked and it was clearly taken as a given that it would be by Muslims.

In their universe that is filled with christo-fascist denial, there was no possibility it would be an attack against Muslims.

You can be sure that the tremendous loathing an overwhelming majority of Canadians feel for tRump and RepubliCons will increase.

Two suspects are in custody, it is reported, so we may soon know about motives and coordination.

At HuffPo Canada, one commenter was incredulous and said "How could this possibly have anything to do with Trump?" The right wingers are so quick to credit Trump for the increase in right-wing and hard-right agitation around the world but with their compartmentalized denialism they can't imagine him having increase hate one iota.
