Quebec mosque shooting: police now say there's only one suspect

Source: Montreal Gazette

Police now say only one of the two people arrested after Sunday’s terror attack on a mosque in Quebec City is a suspect, with the second man considered a witness.

There are reports that the suspect is Alexandre Bissonnette, a Université Laval student. Police would not confirm that information.

One of the men was arrested at the scene, while a second called 911 himself and was arrested around 9 p.m., just over an hour after the first 911 calls came in at 7:55 p.m., police said Monday morning during a news conference involving the Sûreté du Québec, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Quebec City police and Montreal police.

Quebec City police Insp. Denis Turcotte said the man who called 911 waited for officers to arrest him not long after the shooting at the Centre Culturel Islamique de Quebec in Quebec City’s Ste-Foy neighbourhood.

One suspect. One. Not two. The alleged person is from a Québécois family, with admiration for far-right politics.

They were gleefully reporting that Muslims were responsible for this.

The other guy was from Moroccan descent. Expect the Truthers to be out in force (you know like a Middle Easterner included with McVeigh and Sandy Hook not ever happening).

When in doubt arrest the brown guy.

Was a Columbine situation -- one psychopath, and one seriously depressed, possibly with a grudge. But that's really unlikely.

This makes sense, and unfortunately, cops everywhere tend to over-arrest.

Québec City mosque shooting: man charged with six counts of murder

Alexandre Bissonnette, 27, also charged with five counts of attempted
murder in attack prime minister Justin Trudeau called act of terrorism

A 27-year-old university student has been charged with six counts of first-degree murder over a shooting at a Québec City mosque during evening prayers, in what the Canadian prime minister described as an act of terror.

Alexandre Bissonnette, a student in the social sciences faculty at Laval University, is also facing five charges of attempted murder.

A local group dedicated to welcoming refugees, Bienvenu aux réfugiés, said Bissonnette’s name was familiar to them and that he had expressed support for Marine Le Pen, the leader of France’s far-right Front National.

In a Facebook post, the group said that Bissonnette was “unfortunately known by several miliants in Québec City for his viewpoints that were pro-LePen and anti-feminist, as expressed in social media and at the Université Laval”.

Two men who knew Bissonnette told Journal de Québec that he was a Trump supporter.

One, Éric Debroise, said he informed police Bissonnette is an "ultra nationalist white supremacist," while one of Bissonnette's classmates, Jean-Michel Allard-Prus, said "he has right-wing political ideas, pro-Israel, anti-immigration. I had many debates with him about Trump. He was obviously pro-Trump."

Just because they go together like a shit sandwich. Also, unmotivated student (27? still on BA? Living with mama...).

at least he turned himself over. It's so much easier to study them post-conviction when they're still breathing.
