Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is calling for President Trump adviser Steve Bannon to be removed from the National Security Council (NSC).
Steve Bannon sitting on the National Security Council is dangerous and unprecedented. He must be removed, Sanders tweeted.
We need experienced people who will protect our country on the National Security Council, not an extreme right-wing political operative, he added.

Trump signed a memorandum on Saturday to restructure the NSC to include Bannon, White House chief strategist. The restructuring also downgraded the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the director of national intelligence.

(7,430 posts)That means he has to go in front of the Senate for vetting. This isn't optional, according to law.
Without the advice and consent of the Senate, Trumpy is violating federal law.

(99,584 posts)"Sanders, however, was critical of Trump". Seems you missed some of the story! Killed TPP! Working to bring jobs to the US is not in our best interest?
http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/23/politics/sanders-says-he-would-work-with-trump-for-new-trade-policy-cnntv/
(CNN)Calling President Donald Trump's executive action to withdraw from the negotiating process of the Trans-Pacific Partnership "a positive step," Sen. Bernie Sanders on Monday said he would be "delighted," in theory, to work with the White House to build a trade policy that benefits working Americans rather than just the wealthy.
"It's one thing to kill the TPP ... it's another thing to develop a trade policy that finally works for American workers and not the CEOs of large multinational corporations," said Sanders, an independent who represents Vermont, speaking on "AC360." "If Mr. Trump is serious about moving in that direction I'd be delighted to work with him."
Sanders, however, was critical of Trump for outsourcing work in his sprawling business empire to countries with cheap labor.
"He could set a great example by bringing jobs back to the United States of America and hiring American workers here," said Sanders.

(34,648 posts)And when I end up on a Trump plantation after Donald sends the Nat Guard to suppress blacks, I'll be comforted by the fact that he's only 'delighted' to work with him on trade policy. After all, perhaps I'll be a commodity soon. Trade will be of the utmost importance to me when I'm chattel.

(34,648 posts)My glasses are just fine, Steve, how're yours? Because that photo has nothing to do with my post in any way, and I do not understand the connection.
I don't spend my time attacking Democrats, since I know damn well that Democrats are proud to stand with me and mine; that is why they accept the label, and all of the history and ideas and PEOPLE of my party. Those not willing to accept the label are not exactly people I ever feel sure of or trust to 'stand down a tank' or whatever that photo means.

(16,072 posts)In that time the highest rank he probably achieved was that of Lt. Commander(Major in the Army)! He served as a Surface Warfare officer, but never commanded his own ship. He finished his service as a special assistant in the Chief of Naval Operations office at the Pentagon!
Nothing in that indicates that he has more experience then the DNI or the Joint Chiefs chairman!!!
Even in the Navy he was known for his "conservative" views...maybe that's why he never got a command!

(38,419 posts)And are not being told ahead of time that certain executive orders are coming.. Without those leaders cooperation, Trump is in serious trouble. Those leaders have the power to get rid of Bannon, and if Bannon is not gone, perhaps those leaders will get rid of Bannon's boss...It will take some time, but that is what may happen.. We will see........sooner the better....

(42,862 posts)But, looks like our options are limited at this point. What's done is done. There's no going back. Might as well accept it. Can't do anything about it. We're stuck. This is what we have. We can't change the past. It is what it is. Make the best of it.
Or something.
