Obama's Protections for L.G.B.T. Workers Will Remain Under Trump

Source: New York Times

The White House said on Monday that President Trump would leave in place a 2014 Obama administration order that created new workplace protections for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

In a statement issued in response to growing questions about whether Mr. Trump would reverse the Obama order, the White House said the president was proud to embrace gay rights.

"President Trump continues to be respectful and supportive of L.G.B.T.Q. rights, just as he was throughout the election," the statement said. "The president is proud to have been the first ever G.O.P. nominee to mention the L.G.B.T.Q. community in his nomination acceptance speech, pledging then to protect the community from violence and oppression."

The decision to keep the order, the statement added, was Mr. Trump's. It uses stronger language than any Republican president has before in favor of equal legal protections for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, though that is not likely to quiet Mr. Trump's critics on the left.

The right hand says, "I love the gays," and the left hand puts out an order that says you can discriminate due to religious beliefs.

Given that he appears to have no empathy whatsoever for other human beings, if the EO materializes, my guess is that this will undoubtedly be what they point to as proof that he's not a bigot.

However, I'm glad that the people who were impacted by PBO's actions can feel a little more secure for the time being.

As you know, though, we don't all fit into one nice neat jello mold.

For most of us, we see this exactly for the ploy it is, but before I logged into DU this morning, I had seen several versions of this article on my wall just to "show me" that he's not that bad for us...

I do think the log cabiners, and fiscal con's among us will take this bait.

However, the post is offensive because it isn't talking about right-wingers, Log Cabin, or otherwise, is it? No, it isn't because it is saying "divide and conquer". Those people were never on the sides of others. That post is talking about people like YOU and ME. So, you going to take the bait? I am not.

If you were truly referring to their reasoning, then it shouldn't have been written as "This will get him just enough goodwill from LGBTQ people..." but rather as "They think this will get him just enough goodwill from LGBTQ people..." because without the subject, as in your version, it appears to be your opinion and is very offensive.

Also, your "reasoning" as to why he might be a "closet 'mo", are fucking offensive. Ever think the behavior he is trying to repress is deep hate for mankind as a whole?

Somethings afoot. So they will be allowed to work. What about medical rights, loans, housing, education, adoption, legally keeping their children, rights not to get beaten or murdered, and marriage. One law may very well be made obsolete by another law particularly when right to religion laws are made. Right to religion laws are only going to be right to fundamentalist Christian laws only.
