Romney fears tax returns would be distorted

Source: AFP

WASHINGTON — US presidential challenger Mitt Romney said Tuesday that he will not release his tax records from before 2010 because his opponents would "pick through, distort and lie about" them.

The Republican hopeful is under pressure from Democratic incumbent Barack Obama's campaign -- and from many on his own side -- to quell speculation about his wealth by releasing his financial records to public scrutiny.

But, in an interview with the conservative website National Review Online, Romney said he had already released his most recent records from 2010 and would not be going further back to quiet his critics.

¬snip¬

"And I'm simply not enthusiastic about giving them hundreds or thousands of more pages to pick through, distort and lie about."

practice and other very wealthy candidates do not balk. Meg Whitman did when running against Brown in CA and all the money she flushed could not overcome that lack of openness.

The year they released showed only 15% in taxes. You can only imagine what's on the years they're not releasing.

I suspect there will be some massively embarrasing (Dressage Horse Write-Offs) details in there, as well.

Who are these people running this sorry ass campaign? This clown has been running for president for 6+ years. He could have had those returns amended and patched up by now. Fucking lazy coward.

42. Meanwhile, he picked through President Obama's speach today, and distorted and lied about
Tue Jul 17, 2012, 09:47 PM
Jul 2012

what Obama said. rMoney is broadcasting that Obama said "If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that." The "that" isn't referring to the "American system". You didn't build the American system... that took everybody.

“If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.

So we say to ourselves, ever since the founding of this country, you know what, there are some things we do better together. That’s how we funded the GI Bill. That’s how we created the middle class. That’s how we built the Golden Gate Bridge or the Hoover Dam. That’s how we invented the Internet. That’s how we sent a man to the moon. We rise or fall together as one nation and as one people, and that’s the reason I’m running for president — because I still believe in that idea. You’re not on your own, we’re in this together.”

..."who cares what you think?"

Welcome to the politics that your party has made, Mittens. And remember, no one is obligated to vote for you. What you are "enthusiastic" about doesn't amount to a hill of beans. How did you get to this point in your life and not understand that yet?

Oh, right, being a lifelong privileged dick would explain it, wouldn't it?
