(14,400 posts)really does tend to run in a straight line where the abusers were often abused as children themselves.
We have to start working with kids the minute we find out they are being abused to ensure that they have a decent chance of not becoming an abuser later on.

(6,931 posts)Watched a pretty telling documentary on Jerry. Took down his big statue on campus and how MANY were totally PO and willing to look the other way for a winning program.
Sick beyond belief.

(5,523 posts)And as much as Jerry was a monster, he could have been a victim as a child also. I am not excusing his actions and he deserves life in prison.

(27,803 posts)but it's pretty common that there is a cycle of abuse, so the odds of his having been abused as a kid are higher than average, I'd guess.
It is sick, and it is sad, but the unfortunate reality is that there is a victim to abuser syndrome in a lot of these cases.

(6,262 posts)Excruciatingly for the victims, but also a just a tiny bit for the "trained" progeny of a serial offender. We can only hope the chain has been broken, but without intensive therapy for the son's victims and their possible future actions, it may yet continue.

(2,195 posts)They removed Joe Paterno's statue because he was lynched in the court of public opinion by ESPN et al Paterno did more good for humankind than anybody in his position of head coach at any University PSU Board Of Trustrees made Joe the scapegoat because they did not how to how handle former coach Sandusky who committed his crimes off campus particularly with the youth program he founded called 2nd Mile which was never investigated and had $$ ties with former Repub PA AG and Governor Tom Corbett Over 5 years later no Penn St official (Shultz Spanier Curley) has been convicted or even come to trail Now Sandusky son gets arrested and Paterno is to blame? Flake off!

(17 posts)I agree. Paterno definitely was not The Cloud Being's gift to humankind. it follows logically that if Paterno squashed complaints about Sandusky to save a program then Corbett as then AG may have played a role to save his political ass. No guvship with that kind of baggage.

(1,685 posts)But I bet Sandusky Sr. molested his own son.
One common thing is many of these child molestors have been molested themselves. I wonder if a certain amount of them wouldn't even molest if they were never molested.
Not everyone molested becomes a child molestor, but there 'seems' to be a correlation for child molestors where they have been molested.
