Mulvaney: If Your State Doesn't Mandate Maternity Care, Change Your State

Source: Talking Points Memo

Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney, one of the top administration officials who had been working to pass the bill to repeal and replace Obamacare, on Friday morning brushed off concerns about a new provision in the bill that repeals the Essential Health Benefits requirement.

That provision would repeal a requirement that insurers cover a list of 10 essential benefits, including maternity care. Asked about this on CBS' "This Morning," Mulvaney argued that states can still require that insurance companies cover the EHBs.

"If you live in a state that wants to mandate maternity coverage for everybody, including 60-year-old women, that’s fine," he said.

Co-host Alex Wagner asked Mulvaney about people who do not live in a state that requires maternity coverage.

"Then you can figure out a way to change the state that you live in," Mulvaney replied.

With the intent of Stopping the GOP Lead by Trump Agenda at every turn. . . but we also discuss 'what ifs'.

There's going to be a New Governor in NJ this year. We are going to maintain and increase Democratic representation in the Assembly and Senate.

And with that - we need *when we talk* to prevent Health Care Refugees from Trump 'States'. Seriously - it's sick and it is cruel - but we need a two year delay in being able to take state benefits.

Now -if you get transferred here by say Johnson and Johnson or AT &T and the state mandates your employer cover you - that's aok.

We simply cannot be asked to give one more thin red cent to people who were too stupid to see Trump for what 'it' is and thus have harmed every single American.

This concept will take bread off the tables of good New Jerseyans who are down on their luck and need state sponsored health care their pregnancy.

Yeah - so we are kind of assholes like that . . . but every Indivisible, Progressive Action, Block Trump organization needs to start thinking like that: How can I protect people like me and defend smaller resources from outsiders who hate me for what I am - a liberal in a blue state.

See my post above. What good is it to make blue states bluer?Remaining Red State Dumfuckistan will still win electoral vote. Unless we are allotted more congressional districts & awarded more electoral votes & distributed our fair share of the treasury, But they would still control senate seats in those states.

No women need apply.

Contraceptives? Not my problem. Prenatal care? Pfft. Postnatal care? Who needs it? Well baby checkups? Oh, be real. Pap smears and mammograms? Eww, ladyparts.

Next time I really lose my temper and call them all "motherfuckers," there will be a whole new layer of literal meaning.

Any woman who (unfortunately) happens to married to one of these bozos should follow the GOP aspirin between knees advice unless actively trying to conceive. If GOP men don't want to pay for maternity care, they need to grab a box of tissues and lock themselves in the bathroom with a dirty magazine.

because that's how insurance works.

Geez, if maternity coverage were only for childbearing women, that's mathematically the same as women paying out of pocket for maternity care.

"change the state that you live in"

yes, we can all take a hand in this, it's long overdue. from local school boards up to governorships, from town councils to legislatures, all across this land, let's work diligently to change the states we live in, improve them for our children and coming generations. we all need to become active at the state and local level. for some, it is our last line of defense against the encroaching darkness. for others, that line has crumbled and needs to be rebuilt stronger than ever.

thank you Mick for sharing your insight on this topic, and pointing out a simple truth.

the idea that we can count on this version of the federal government to do anything but funnel big money to the already-wealthy is fallacious. if we're going to help people we need more local and state governments to see the benefits of Democratic policies and politicians.
