ALEX JONESS THREAT TO CONGRESSMAN MAY BE A FELONY
Source: Newsweek

Law enforcement officials are not saying whether they will charge broadcaster Alex Jones, the right-wing conspiracy theorist ally of President Donald Trump, for publicly threatening to beat Representative Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and telling Schiff to fill your handa reference to taking up a pistol.
But, says an attorney with expertise in federal law, Joness threats appear to break a federal law, U.S. Code Title 18, Section 115, which makes it illegal to threaten to assault a U.S. official and provides a penalty of up to six years in prison.
I do think that the combination of Joness comments would amount to a threat, says Amanda Berman, director of legal affairs with Lawfare Project, a consortium of experts on national security law. It seems to be a clear provocation. Ultimately, the question would have to be put to a judge or jury, but I think there is a legal basis for a conviction based on Joness threat, which was made with intent to impede, intimidate or interfere with Congressman Schiffs exercise of his duties as the ranking member of the committee investigating the connection between the Trump campaign/administration and the Russians.
Schiff likely became a Jones target because he is the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, which is investigating possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russia. Schiff has said there is more than circumstantial evidence of collusion between Trump associates and Russia.

(47,239 posts)about Alex Jones. With some of them, it is just an act for their audience, but I saw him on Piers Morgan's show a few years ago and he looked like he was going to explode.

(18,652 posts)were plausible at the time, when he was a lot quieter and more rational.
Now though, he's a few heartbeats away from heart attack or blood clot to the brain/paralysis/dementia. Whatever his problem, prob. some combination of drugs, alcohol, bad food, no exercise, never seeing sunlight...the guy's a ticking time bomb ready to explode, I agree.
I remember him after 9/11 and he did come across as much more rational and measured. Now he is a raving maniac. I think you're right - drugs, alcohol, etc. could play a part. He looks like he needs serious medical help.

(3,252 posts)I don't think its drugs or alcohol. I am not a psychiatrist, but I would guess his mental state has become even worse, and he was bat shit crazy fifteen years ago. Most of the stations carrying him were fed from a small network in the back of a gold brokerage at the time. The theory of radio is that you want crazy people listening because its easier to sell them things like "Miracle Soap".

Yes, that makes sense. Be careful the company you keep. Also all the bat shit crazy crap he was throwing out there, came back to him 10 fold.

You would think badass Jones would fight right? No, he is a big fucking puss, he started crying to the cops LOOK LOOK he ASSAULTED ME arrest him crying like a little baby. I should go down to Austin myself and get in his face LOL

(1,606 posts)He always seems to get all red, frothy and rage-babbling. Not sure if its all just an act but it seems odd that this would be the first time he's made a threat to a public figure, or wished harm/violence on anyone. Seems likely he's wished harm on many an elected/public official in the past? It would be nice if he'd get punished if he's in fact making death threats. Not acceptable.

Alex has broken number 2, and that is against the law and if prosecuted, and the tape is played that it sounds like a legitimate threat, and if a jury agrees..(which it likely will)...Alex will get jail time..You cannot threaten to hurt or kill someone......it is against the law...............OH...I got to add this.............
If I know about this, you had better believe that the local prosecutor knows about this.......He is currently deciding if he wants to charge and prosecute the asshole. If he doesn't, he is not doing his job..
It would be as if a policeman sees a hold up man walk in a bank, with a mask, and the policeman follows and sees the man rob the bank. The policeman watches, and does nothing, does not call for more police, and as the robber gets away, does not take down the license number of the car...Local prosecutor will charge him if he is honest..................
In relation to the OP...threatening to hurt or kill someone.........is a felony

(13,522 posts)Okay, so it turns out, Alex Jones' felonious threats to Rep. Adam Schiff were "tongue in cheek"
and "performance art":
In an article posted April 5, Newsweek quoted an attorney who claimed Jones comments may constitute a felony. Jones subsequently posted a video attempting to clarify his remarks, claiming hes actually a leading proponent of nonviolence like Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr.:
ALEX JONES: Were going to lose this fight for America if we get violent. Im one of the biggest proponents of nonviolence, and Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King. Everybody knows that.
Jones later claimed that his anti-Schiff remarks were clearly tongue-in-cheek and basically art performance, as I do in my rants, which I admit I do, as a form of art. And they turn that into a premeditated plan that Im trying to influence that chicken neck Schiff, who has made up all this crap about Trump and Russians, and has been caught lying. Saying that Rice wasnt spying. This guy is a loser. When I say, Im going to kick your ass, its the infowar. I say every day were going to destroy you with the truth.
snip
ALEX JONES: I just want to be clear: I mean no violence against Mr. Schiff. I know the guy's a liar. I know that he is an attack dog of the Democrats. I know that he's really trying to hurt this country so I dislike him, but I wish no harm on him or his wife or his children or anybody else -- so this is not a retraction, this is a clarification. Yes, I don't want violence. You guys are openly calling for it everywhere so I think then you should ask yourselves what hypocrite planet you woke up on when I say 1/10th of what you said clearly jesting and then you take it as serious and call for my incarceration for six years in federal prison.
