House Intel Chairman Nunes to Step Down From Russia Probe

Source: Bloomberg

Representative Devin Nunes, the Republican chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said he is recusing himself from the panel’s investigation of Russian meddling in last year’s presidential election.

“Several leftwing activist groups have filed accusations against me with the Office of Congressional Ethics,” Nunes of California said Thursday in an emailed statement. “The charges are entirely false and politically motivated, and are being leveled just as the American people are beginning to learn the truth about the improper unmasking of the identities of U.S. citizens and other abuses of power.”

He said he would continue to serve as the panel’s chairman. Nunes said Republican Representative Mike Conaway of Texas will replace him in overseeing the Russia inquiry.

Once you've found the image, right click and copy the internet address for the "image" (in this case it's a gif.)
Then you can paste the address into your DU message. I usually preview it first to make sure it's going to work.

Look on websites that collect animated gifs, like giphy.com and other places. They let you upload your own gifs if you have them, or copy the ones that other people have uploaded.

If you like my Pocahontas gif, you can right click on it and save the image on your desktop or wherever you want to save it.

Nunes said he would “temporarily” hand oversight of the inquiry to Republican Representative Mike Conaway of Texas while the House Ethics Committee looks into complaints filed against him. Nunes said he would continue to serve as the committee chairman and lead it in other matters.

They must have been speculating about Trey Gowdy when they brought up his name on MSNBC a few minutes ago when the story was just breaking.

Whatever. Still not celebrating. No reason to - until DEMOCRATS control the House. Then and only then will there be actual investigations that count, and can be trusted.

I think the situation's different now. Democrats are UP. And AWAKE. And ANGRY. And VERY willing to do something about it. I've never seen this much activism in all my life, and I've been an activist in one way or other since I was in high school. I'm 63 now. Democrats weren't nearly so riled up back then as we are now. Not sure why. Maybe we were just too dispirited? Well, that's NOT the case now. And I think our Dems are VERY well aware of that. Painfully aware in some cases, I'd wager.

Don't forget what then-new President Barack Obama said - "Make me do (whatever it was, specifically)." He was exhorting all of us to get active and make our voices heard NOT in whispers but in ROARS. Any Dem, at this point, is forced to think long and hard before voting against the wishes of his/her constituents. And you can bet - so is the GOP. They're watching us nervously out of the corner of their eyes.

That old cliche - "can you hear me NOW?" has now taken hold, for real.

We just have to make damn sure we don't give up. Or choke. Or get distracted. EYES ON THE PRIZE, GUYS. Now is NOT the time to roll over and go back to sleep because the battle's somehow won. I hope Democrats EVERYWHERE have finally come to realize and accept that the battle is NEVER over. As long as a republi-CON walks the earth, the battle is NEVER over.

from the TX-11 district - west Texas, Midland Odessa. He is also chair of the Agricultural committee. He's a CPA, so not stupid. He's an establishment Republican with deep ties to oil and banking. Top campaign industries and contributors - agricultural sercices, crop production & processing, oil & gas. https://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/summary.php?cid=N00026041

I wouldn't bet the mortgage on Conaway being much different than Nunnes. Except that he might even be more partisan and stupid. He compared Russian hacking to Mexican singers campaigning for Hillary.

I saw Rooney and Gowdy speak during the hearing with Comey and
the two of them repeated GOP talking points.

They made no effort to ask real questions, just tried to distract. They're putting their party over country. And I think we can expect that to continue.

That's what did in nunes - I can't even count how many reports there were that before this episode, nunes was considered someone reasonable to work with on the Hill. It just proved that getting involved with donnie is akin to laying down with a flea bitten mongrel. If donnie has nothing on this guy, this will get going quickly. There are PLENTY of republicans who are embarrassed by nunes' behavior in this and they surely didn't like being shown up by their Senate colleagues.

I become more agitated every day that so many citizens, and especially young people, didn't even get off their lazy ass to vote. We have a president who is a total loon and vice president who is a cunning beady-eyed weasel. The executive branch is noting more than a oligarchy. The Republican Congress is faced with a dilemma. One faction is pleased that their health care bill will not kill to many and prove embarrassing while their fellow henchmen are not satisfied it doesn't kill enough of the free-loaders and old useless reprobates who are a drag on health care and a solution for social security short falls. Of course the solution to many of the nations problems could be easily solved with dramatic increase in the tax on the wealthy. A snowball in hell would have a better chance than that ever happening in this congress that is dominated by the wealthy and powerful. I sure hope that the young people come to their senses damn quick, as for me I have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel, but sure feel sorry for the everyone who will not enjoy the good life that Roosevelt made possible for the working class.

So Nunes leaves. And we get Conway and Gowdy.

And his parting shot is "...just as the American people are beginning to learn the truth about the improper unmasking of the identities of U.S. citizens and other abuses of power.”

Talk to anyone with half a brain and the above comment is nothing more than smoke and mirrors and a total and complete lie. The GOP is so giddy at the thought of finally getting the oligarchy/kleptocracy they have fantasized about that they are actively trying to completely destroy our grand experiment in democracy just as quickly as they can. They are almost all traitors to their oath of office. They are hell bent on shredding the Constitution and totally screwing over the people who voted for them just so they can make a buck.

Folks, lets face it. Our republic ain't gonna survive Trump and his enablers in Congress. By the time the Turtle gets rid of the filibuster, Gorsh gets on the SC, there won't be anything to stop them. Overturn the Voting Rights Act, gerrymander even more, don't let anyone vote who might be a Democrat, keep spinning your lies to the masses who don't watch news a couple of hours a day trying to keep up, allow the Orange Shitgibbon in the White House keep getting rich off his office and hiring his family (Constitution, what Constitution?), let the talking heads try desperately to alert the masses, it is all for naught.

We are doomed. And we are doomed by the very people we elected.
