DOJ plans to disrupt global spam network after Russian hacker's arrest

Source: CNN

(CNN)The US Department of Justice announced an "extensive effort to disrupt and dismantle" a network of thousands of compromised computers under the control of an alleged cybercriminal, a statement released Monday said.

The "botnet" was responsible for the sending of hundreds of millions of spam e-mails, intercepting users' online and financial credentials and "installing ransomware and other malicious software," according to the statement.
Is this the 'Ocean's Eleven' of cybercrime?

A botnet is a sophisticated network of computers that have been infected with malware, placing them under the control of a hacker who can "weaponize" them to do his or her bidding.

"The ability of botnets like Kelihos to be weaponized quickly for vast and varied types of harms is a dangerous and deep threat to all Americans, driving at the core of how we communicate, network, earn a living, and live our everyday lives," said Kenneth Blanco, acting assistant attorney general.

That ransomware is particularly nasty. It encrypts all the files and photos on a computer. shraby Apr 2017 #2

for 25 years they can't do anything. Yahoo spam filters, useless. In the early internet
days I reported spam to ISP's, if you recall the search and report system. Nothing
much was done about spam, apparently.

This week I got a new Spam line on Hillary ... video of confessions, that will bug the
hell out of her ... sounds like the same old Russian/Alex Jones lines

How soon before Donny undercuts the budget and the DOJ on this?

He'll be sure that his minions, or even possibly himself, will give Pootie the backdoor routes so they can avoid the so-called fixes. He will not win president without Russia's help and I think he knows it. That's why he's so silent about Syria/Russia, doesn't want to give away the fact that this was all orchestrated between him and pootie in advance.

It ruined my day, that's for sure. I had to install a new operating system in order to clear my puter of the ransomware.

This has been going on for years. Finally they're going to do something? Bet Benedict Donald, screws this up too. Maybe he should hire Obama, as his advisor on everything.

This administration is totally corrupt, and Republicans have been corrupt and unethical long enough that our whole democracy is undermined, especially with the completely sullied administration that is a byproduct of GOP corruption.
