Scores of UAW members joined friends and activists Tuesday in marching with a Southgate husband and wife to a Bank of America branch to protest the foreclosure of the couple's home and efforts to evict them.
Chanting, "Hey, Hey, BOA, how many homes did you steal today?" about 100 people marched with auto mechanic Robert Henry, 53, and Debbie Henry, 58, who said she lost her food-service job after having a stroke in 2008.
"We're not the only ones being forced out of our home, and this has got to stop," Debbie Henry said after the group marched to the bank at 13763 Northline, then chanted and heard speeches outside the building. They did not disrupt customers or employees, a Bank of America spokeswoman said.
The couple's plight is part of a nationwide pattern of abusive banking practices, said Bernie Ricke of Trenton, president of Dearborn-based UAW Local 600, which had 60 members and officers in the march.
