Erin Moran who famously played Joanie Cunningham on "Happy Days" and its spinoff "Joanie Loves Chachi" has died ... TMZ has learned.

We're told authorities in Indiana got a call just after 4 PM ET Saturday from someone reporting an "unresponsive female." EMT's arrived and found Erin Moran's body ... she was already dead.

Don't know if it got better. Either drinking or drugs, and her career tanked after Happy Days and a few things.

I hadn't heard much about her although reading the link, I do recall seeing something about her in the trailer park.

So many child actors have difficulty transitioning in what is already a tough "market".
