DHS Chief: Trump 'Will Be Insistent' On Funding For Border Wall In Spending Bill

Source: Talking Points Memo

By ESME CRIBB Published APRIL 23, 2017, 9:09 AM EDT

Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly on Saturday predicted that President Donald Trump “will be insistent” on including funding for his proposed border wall in a spending bill that Congress must pass to avoid a government shutdown.

“Will the President go to the mat and insist on funding his border wall as part of the stopgap government funding measure?” CNN’s Dana Bash asked Kelly.

“I think it goes without saying that the President has been pretty straightforward about his desire and the need for a border wall,” Kelly said. “So I would suspect he’ll do the right thing for sure, but I would suspect he will be insistent on the funding.”

3. But, isn't Mexico going to pay for it?

Shutting down the government because Congress won't authorize money for a wall we were promised Mexico would pay for is likely to go over like a turd in the punchbowl. I suspect this is the usual Trumpian bluster, though.

4. I can't believe WE are going to pay tons of $ for that wall, while taking health care from citizens.

That angers me so much I can barely stand the thought of it.

Wonder if Trumpers are happy with this.

the further these worshipers are from Mexico. I'm still waiting for one of them to explain how building a wall between CA/AZ/NM/TX and Mexico will bring mid-20th century jobs back to Ohio or Kentucky.

I don't think funding for the wall will make it and it might actually blow the whole thing up in Trump's face.

7. It has nothing to do with national security as many studies have proven it is not

Effective to prevent crossings. Crossings are down a lot mostly because we have a crazy prez and government now. Mexico is looking better to them than winding up in a private prison. I like Mexico. What the wall is about is building a huge monument to rumps ego. Period.

11. You know damn well there's some way he's scheming to personally profit from this.

He's part owner in some company that will be involved and that's why he will never let this go. Everything he does is for personal profit or spite, everything.

Let him veto the CR, he's the one that will pay the price. Let him shut down the government because he wants to take away people's health care, he will pay the price. This could even affect me personally if it goes on long enough as I'm retiring this fall. My husband will still be working, so not planning on taking out any SS $ right away and we can always delay the vaca to NY we had planned. I'll gladly sacrifice my vacation for the cause. I just feel sorry for those whose existence is funded solely by SS checks and hate what that fucking asshole will do to them out of sheer greed and meanness.
