NK Threatens to sink our aircraft carrier WTF?
This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by mcar (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).
Source: TV news?
I was just in a gas station filling my car and the little tv screen had a line across the bottom saying NK has threatened to sink our aircraft carrier and had nuclear weapons and missiles that can reach the USA.
This was about 30 minutes ago at around 8:30 am PST in a Chevron gas station, I don't know what news? Service it was.
I only posted this as I see no mention of it here and it may be in the wrong forum, I may get snarfed at for posting this without a link or source.
But I thought you should know, I'm watching Obama talk on msnbc and there's zero mention of it.
If I made a mistake I'm sorry, but I'm not making this up.

(48,960 posts)It seems your post #2 is a reply to post #1.
Further, "nt" or "n/t" means "No Text" in the body of the post. It is a meant as a kindness so that readers can skip over posts that have no body. If you don't want the body of your reply read, append "nt" or "n/t" to the title.
Don't worry, you'll soon get the hang of how things work around here.

Though realistically, I'd like to see them try...

(47,278 posts)I think it is unlikely and their competence questionable, but they are unpredictable. One can hope they are all bluster and their missiles are all duds.

(2,495 posts)NK leaders have been spouting these threats for decades. There's nothing unusual about it. That's why most media are ignoring it.

(2,050 posts)I was driving my Mustang Cobra and had my Mother with me, I saw her face and thought oh crap I scared her somehow driving it ( while trying not to ) and she pointed to the dispensers tv screen.
She's beside herself these days due to 45's existence as "president" of this Great Nation, I think I turned white myself when I read the screen, she wrung her hands all the way home.
Just one hit after another these days.

They said this kind of thing regularly under Kim Jung Il. They've said this kind of thing regularly under Kim Jung Un.
The US conducts naval exercises with Japan, North Korea threatens total annihilation. The UN calls a meeting to discuss NKs nuclear program, North Korea threatens total annihilation. The US Congress debates sanctions, NK threatens total annihilation. Etc, etc., etc.
Inside the country, hardly a week goes by that the leader isn't proclaiming to the people in the most colorful language the country's firm resolve and overwhelming capability to totally annihilate the United States.
Not dismissing the potential seriousness of it all, but honestly they say this kind of shit literally all the time.

(1,105 posts)it was possible to just look at a threat like that and dismiss it.
However now that we live in the world of Big O, we can no longer take that for granted. I think that's why his mother may have reacted the way she did, certainly gives me a little twinge.

(2,050 posts)But with Mr Monstorous Ego, our next "War President" and the mad bomber with access to the red button in the Whitehouse it's getting scarier by the hour.
I'm done, but I'll keep reading.

And hopefully you won't take my birthday away......

(2,050 posts)My Father "Donald" was on the Oriskany and Coral Sea, we watched the sinking of the Oriskany for use as an artificial reef.
They stated how hard it was to sink it and it still had top secret designation on it's construction plans which were needed to be studied to figure out how to sink it.
I know they are extremely hard to sink but the thought of NK even trying scares the crap out of me, there are thousands of men and women on board, not to mention the rest of the task group.
I sincerely hope nothing happens.

(45,380 posts)This is more posturing just like Bannon wanted. Trump's people are deliberately provoking North Korea, who is easy to provoke, to boost Dolt 45's poll numbers.
The US has enemies who are not brown for a change.
I feel like the US has a history of handling problems in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East a bit differently than Europe. I remember the Bosnians/Serbs proclaiming "How can you bomb us, we're European!".
Trumpster fire has gotten trigger happy with cruise missiles and the MOAB recently and I hope he's not planning similar BS with a much better armed and paranoid enemy that has backing from China. A sensible president would find a way to diffuse this situation not dump gasoline on it and toss in a match.

(42 posts)so you're not crazy. I share you incredulity that it wasn't more widely discussed. It's not that I believe that it's possible, but I think that it does create an environment in which the ... White House ... might be prompted to respond irrationally.
