Argentine President Mauricio Macri reverted a decision to award former U.S. President Jimmy Carter the Order of the Liberator General San Martín - the maximum distinction the country can give to a foreign person.

The reversal followed pressure from President Donald Trump's administration, CNN reported this week.

The official tribute, which had already been published in the foreign ministry's Official Gazette, was cancelled after receiving a specific request by the U.S. government, which suggested it would be better to delay it.

Carter was to be given the award for his work in promoting human rights during Argentina's last military dictatorship, in power between 1976 and 1983. According to an official, 1984 Argentine report, deaths by forced disappearance slowed from 3,600 in 1976 to just 46 in 1980.

After being informed about the decision, the Argentine Foreign Ministry again requested that President Macri give the award in spite of Trumps opposition since it had already been made official, according to an anonymous foreign ministry official consulted by CNN's David Cox.

Our outrage and disgust with this person occupying the White House seems to increase with each passing day, but we sure as hell can't say we're surprised. This skidmark told us and showed us who he is a long time ago. He is a petty, vindictive creature who would turn on his own grandmaw if he thought for a minute it would make people love and revere him.

The fact that he has aimed his venom at a lovely man like Jimmy Carter just underscores for us how low he can sink. His jealousy and envy know no bounds, so it is a given that he will continue to show us who he is deep inside.

As an aside, we often are reminded of how little insight tRump has and how poorly he is regarded by the majority of Americans (and people around the world). Listening to that interview he did yesterday where he talks about how much he misses his previous life and how hard the job being President is seems to be showing a side of tRump we've never seen. The Argentine Foreign Ministry is urging the president (Macri) to disregard Trump's demands - especially seeing as they've already published news of the upcoming award on their gazette.

Macri is a neocon though - and a personal friend of Trump's besides - dating from a Manhattan real estate deal that Trump actually screwed Macri's father, Francesco, out of in 1984 (amazingly, they later became friends).

He froze wages (which forced real pay down by 40% by 1978), enacted free trade (which flooded the country with imports, driving thousands of industries out of business), and deregulated finance - which led to $30 billion in bad debts (in 1980 dollars, and for just 28 million people).

The combined effects derailed the Argentine economy. And because the IMF basically governed economic policy for the next 20 years, poverty continued to grow until reaching 57% in 2002.

They had gotten back on track from 2003 to 2015, under the much-maligned Kirchners; but racist dog whistles and a massive media campaign brought right-wingers back - this time, narrowly, by way of elections - and the country has been in a sharp recession ever since.

That would be Trump's old buddy Macri.
