Michelle Obama reveals why she held back tears at Trump's inauguration

Source: The Independent

The first lady also reveals how she's adapting to private life

Emily Shugerman New York 2 hours ago

Former First Lady Michelle Obama has revealed the reason behind her now-infamous “side-eye” during Donald Trump’s inauguration: She was holding back tears.

“I didn’t want to have tears in my eyes because people would swear I was crying because of the new president,” Ms Obama told an audience at the American Institute of Architects convention in Orlando.

In her first speech since Mr Trump took office, Ms Obama said she had grown emotional at the thought of leaving her White House staff. But she also made it clear she had no intentions of returning to Pennsylvania Avenue.

"I wouldn't ask my children to do this again because, when you run for higher office, it's not just you, it's your whole family," she said, rebuffing rumours of a possible White House run. "Plus, there's so much more we can do outside of the office, because we won't have the burden of political baggage."

We were holding back tears right along with you. Tears of our Real White House Family (Y'all -- The Obama's) were leaving for these Plastic Barbies, Cheeto Skinned, Faux-So-Easy Anyone With A Brain Can See, Crapola Gang We Have Occupying Our White House, right now.

Lastly, understand Michelle why you would never want to come back. It's been tainted by "those Folks" now. Live your life and enjoy it along with Barack and the kids.

I cried the whole day.

I loved Michelle from the very beginning. So real and vulnerable and accessible.

Not like these plastic phonies who are there now.

And republicans treated her rudely and disrespectfully.

“I didn’t want to have tears in my eyes because people would swear I was crying because of the new president."

It was perfectly appropriate to feel the need to cry exposed to the likes of Trump.
A majority of Americans felt the same way – and still do.

She tried to do so many good things for America, and she got a ridiculous amount of completely undeserved criticism. She was invariably gracious, eloquent, lovely, intelligent, fashionable, charming, honest and real. Perhaps the finest First Lady we were ever blessed to have. And all the while, she supported her husband and was an outstanding and inspiring mother to her children, who grew up to be fantastic young women.

We miss you, Michelle! Please don't ever be too far away . . .

Most awesomeness one of my lifetime. I liked Hillary as FLOTUS don't get me wrong but this woman here, well she was the best of the best, representing us to our kids, our friends even our adversaries. She has more class in one tiny toe nail than melania or however she spells her name has in her whole being.

She was the epitome of what a FLOTUS can be, both intellectually and culturally, and has been an incredible role model for young women.
