Pelosi: Odds of Democrats retaking House 'better and better'

Source: Politico

By CONNOR O’BRIEN 04/30/17 10:57 AM EDT

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Sunday the chances of Democrats taking back the majority in the House of Representatives in midterm elections is getting "better and better" during the Trump administration. "I've never in my years in politics seen so much enthusiasm," Pelosi told "ABC This Week."

"History is on our side," Pelosi said, noting changes in House majorities under former Presidents Bill Clinton (1994), George W. Bush (2006) and Barack Obama (2010).

Pushed on polling data that indicates voters view Democrats as more out of touch than President Donald Trump and Republicans, Pelosi responded that the party needs to better communicate its message.

"The Democratic Party is unified. I would say my only critique of the Democrats [is] we have walked the walk, but we haven't talked the talk," the California Democrat said. "All we do is fight for America's working families against special interests that Republicans represent, but that has not come across."

Some people were legitimately overlooked, while others are just whiny brats.

All the marches that have been going on are a good thing, they're been in mostly urban areas and democratic strongholds. Policies and rhetoric also need to be organized where it benefits rural/redneck America.

They lost their shit because of the social progress and seemingly lack of economic progress.

REAL problems of omission occurred, it appears. And its a REAL lack of economic progress, not 'seeming.'

Yes, Democrats/democrats must become better at engaging and activating the people.

support local, state & national candidates. We need to take back the House in 2018 to stem the tide of destruction the GOP and Orange Idiot are leashing upon our country. Every locality/municipality/county/city/town has some form of Democratic establishment. Look them up and volunteer your time in some way. Instead of getting made, let's get even, and the best way to do that is to channel our frustration into constructive activity. LET'S TAKE BACK THE HOUSE IN 2018!!!

Gerrymandering
Fox Noise and National Hate Radio
An obscene amount of dark Republican money going to Republicans

None of that is going away, so the fight is still very much uphill. We dare not forget that.

Unfortunately, this prognosis won't exactly put us in a position to influence things much better than we can now. 230 seats is enough for them to comfortably lock us out of every major vote held in the House.

dems only have to stop ignoring their only messaging advantage - the one that's been kicking liberal ass for 30 years.

worse than just giving them a free speech free ride with no challenge, we even let 88 major 'liberal' universities support 257 limbaugh stations, many of the loudest in the country.

for anyone who doubts that messaging advantage, consider how fast clinton would be gone if she was in the white house and the Rcons had half the stuff on her we have on trump

instead, it will delay and force compromise and we may never get him out

...on winning over people who aren't going to vote for them.

Rather than trying to win over ill-informed or under-informed Republicans or supposed "independents" (spoiler alert: they are not) they need to win over the people who just shrug their shoulders and don't feel inspired or motivated.

Yes, I know it's stupid and people SHOULD know better and SHOULD be more informed and SHOULD see more of the differences. But instead of whining about that and folding our hands in pouting mode, they need to get out there and sell better and make things simpler for people to relate to.

But I do remember 2006 so maybe there is hope. But I am a bit pessimistic because of the gerrymandering, voter suppression and ids laws might prevent that from happening and the biggest problem Russian interference again. Putin wants to destabilize the USA

I think Dems like Pelosi and Schumer should talk health care and infrastructure at every opportunity. Pelosi could have mentioned them here instead of saying "better and better". She forgets she's a messenger.

No one outside of the party gives a damn about our values or that we fight special interests. If we want the House we offer concrete solutions and deliverables on job growth, specifically in the midwest.

Midterms are tough for Democrats, since so many of their voters are younger. The midterms aren't exciting, so more older voters than younger turn out, is often the way it is.

I hope this time will be different. What a difference it would make to re-take the House.
