BREAKING: Federal prosecutors have issued grand jury subpoenas to Michael Flynn's associatesThis discussion thread was locked as off-topic by hrmjustin (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum). Link to tweet ![]() http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/09/politics/grand-jury-fbi-russia/index.html CNN exclusive: Grand jury subpoenas issued in FBI's Russia investigation By Evan Perez, Shimon Prokupecz and Pamela Brown, CNN Updated 9:06 PM ET, Tue May 9, 2017 Washington (CNN)Federal prosecutors have issued grand jury subpoenas to associates of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn seeking business records, as part of the ongoing probe of Russian meddling in last year's election, according to people familiar with the matter. CNN learned of the subpoenas hours before President Donald Trump fired FBI director James Comey. The subpoenas represent the first sign of a significant escalation of activity in the FBI's broader investigation begun last July into possible ties between Trump campaign associates and Russia. The subpoenas issued in recent weeks by the US Attorney's Office in Alexandria, Virginia, were received by associates who worked with Flynn on contracts after he was forced out as director of the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2014, according to the people familiar with the investigation. Robert Kelner, an attorney for Flynn, declined to comment. The US Attorney's Office in Alexandria, the Justice Department and the FBI also declined to comment. Obama warned Trump about hiring Flynn Investigators have been looking into possible wrongdoing in how Flynn handled disclosures about payments from clients tied to foreign governments including Russia and Turkey, US officials briefed on the matter have told CNN. The Flynn inquiry is one piece of the broader investigation, which FBI Director James Comey testified in a Senate hearing last week is led jointly by the Alexandria US Attorney's Office and the Justice Department's National Security Division. 5. No, the federal grand jury can subpoena people to decide whether to charge Flynn...
...at least, until Donnie tells the appropriate DoJ prosecutors to shut it down or else.

12. And as far as we know it's still
an intelligence investigation.
Unclear if the GJ can suddenly be re-purposed on the fly. |

3. It's a FEDERAL grand jury...
...so Trump's DoJ can shut it down whenever they want. Do you really think they won't now? (Unless, of course, they can restrict it to nailing a few appropriate low-level scapegoats and then declared that Great Leader Donald had successfully rooted out all that corruption.)

9. +1!!!
Getting hot in the kitchen, is the popcorn ready.
Wonder if this precipitated the firing? Wonder if Sessions saw they were getting too close and went to Trump to axe Comey? |

13. The U.S. attorney needs to call Flynn's lawyer and lay out the case against him, then...
offer him a deal for testimony against Trump.
Unfortunately, Trump will probably fire Dana Boente within the week. |
