Rep. Tom Garrett holds town hall meeting in Moneta
MONETA — Tensions ran high at Rep. Tom Garrett’s town hall Tuesday, where constituents demanded to know why the freshman congressman voted for the Republican health plan designed to replace the Affordable Care Act.
Constituents shouted, interrupted and jeered. One woman was so worked up she was escorted out of the forum by local law enforcement, an incident Garrett said he wished hadn’t occurred.
The pastor of EastLake Community Church, the event venue, warned attendees from the outset that they were not to disrupt the question-and-answer session.
Loretta Merryman of Rustburg, in the second row, shouted at Garrett several times, eventually yelling, “You’re wrong. You know you’re wrong!” when he answered a question about having not read the full text of the health care replacement bill.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
