President Trumps sudden firing of FBI Director James B. Comey is bad for the country and will not be the end of the Trump-Russia affair, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) told a group of foreign diplomats and experts Tuesday night.
Although McCain did not directly accuse the White House of firing Comey to thwart the FBIs investigation into the Trump campaigns possible Russia ties, he did say that if that was the intention, it would fail.
This scandal is going to go on. Ive seen it before, McCain told a meeting of the Munich Security Conference core group. This is a centipede. I guarantee you there will be more shoes to drop, I can just guarantee it. Theres just too much information that we dont have that will be coming out. He called Trumps actions against Comey unprecedented and said the position of FBI director has held special meaning in American public life dating back decades.
I remember the Saturday Night Massacre, McCain told the mostly European and American guests, referring to the 1973 incident when President Nixon fired the special prosecutor looking into the Watergate break-in, Archibald Cox.

(9,426 posts)Mrs. McCain gets her government job, he will step out of the spotlight. There is talk of her being appointed to something. McCain can not be trusted. Remember the hug from Dubya after spreading rumors about his daughter? He is gop through and through, which is to say he has no ethics, no courage, no core beliefs. $$$ is their GOD.

(3,557 posts)I'm sure you also don't forget the tough talk he had in regard to trump during the republican primaries. As soon as he got the nomination he bent over backwards to felate trump with the rest of the republican party.

C'mon, you're both retiring anyway, right? You'll get to be super-important, and this is the Super-Maverick-y move.

(33,643 posts)With all that entails. That would mean FAR FAR more in the longer term than just getting a special prosecutor. Esp. if a SCOTUS opening comes up.
On top of that, it's also the means to ensure that we'd actually get an SP ... these are not mutually exclusive, in fact it's quite the opposite.

(37,648 posts)He's an even keeled person, not prone to exaggeration or emotional responses. So I find his response mild mannered, but the words themselves have a great deal of meaning for McCain to say them. I think his opinion is reflective of others in the Senate.
