After Tough Week, Trump Looks for a Lift at Liberty University

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump on Saturday is set to deliver the commencement address - his first as president - to Liberty University, the nation's largest Christian college, where he is expected to find to a friendly audience after a week of turmoil in Washington.
Trump has been closeted in the White House all week, making only a few, brief public appearances after he took the highly unusual and fraught step of abruptly firing James Comey as FBI director on Tuesday.
Dismissing the head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation at a time when the agency probes alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election has overshadowed Trump's push to boost jobs through tax reform and a massive infrastructure program.
The Lynchburg, Virginia, college should provide a receptive crowd for Trump's economic message. He campaigned there during his run for office and was bolstered by the endorsement of its president, Jerry Falwell Jr., who helped secure support from religious conservatives.

(9,426 posts)that tRump has. Adultery, multiple wives, brags about his many sexual escapdes (according to HIM) Russian prostitutes. Yes, wonderful role model for a Christian U. If they are expecting huge donations from his foundation, they should be made aware that the ONLY people profiting from any tRump "charity or foundation" are family members. What a farce this entire administration is, loaded to the brim with liars, self aggrandizing charletans and crooks.

(10,291 posts)This is my "religious test" of any Christian. Do they live via Luke 10:27?
Mr. Donald J. Trump does not come close to passing the Luke 10:27 test. I also believe that a number of leading figures at Liberty U have forgotten about Luke 10:27... and probably the New Testament in general, relying on a politicized view of the Bible which is more Old Testament.

If he wants approval from the majority he can get it but its going to have to mean growing a pair of balls to fire the extreme radical right on this staff and bringing in moderates that are not incompetent idiots as well as staying the fuck off twitter.

(42,356 posts)A Liberty student named Tyler McNally posted a lengthy response on Twitter last night, calling it the first official statement from Liberty United Against Trump. It began:
In the months since Jerry Falwell Jr. endorsed him, Donald Trump has been inexorably associated with Liberty University. We are Liberty students who are disappointed with President Falwells endorsement and are tired of being associated with one of the worst presidential candidates in American history. Donald Trump does not represent our values and we want nothing to do with him.
The statement goes on to reference the Access Hollywood tape and chastises Falwell for taking sexual assault lightlyparticularly since it has become such a serious issue on college campuses, including Libertys. Any faculty or staff member at Liberty would be terminated for such comments, and yet when Donald Trump makes them, President Falwell rushes eagerly to his defense taking the name Liberty University with him, it reads. The statement asserts that a majority of Liberty students, faculty, and staff agree.

(28,202 posts)I caught a couple of minutes of today's speech, including the part where trump heaped praise on the Liberty U exec who was a POW during WWII for 3 1/2 years, shrinking to 85 pounds, nearly dying, etc. etc. etc. You know---the same sort of vile treatment John McCain and other Vietnam POW's received, and in return they were labeled "losers" by trump.
Jeez, I cannot wait for this evil piece of shit to be run out of office.

Students at Virginias Liberty University have issued a statement against Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump as young conservatives at some colleges across the country reconsider support for his campaign.
A statement issued late Wednesday by the group Liberty United Against Trump strongly rebuked the candidate as well as the schools president, Jerry Falwell Jr., for defending Trump after he made vulgar comments about women in a 2005 video.

Though I don't expect protests because those kids are all little Stepford students in general. Some actually seem to have actual morals that can't be bought by power, fame and money.
