Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein will brief all senators on Thursday on the circumstances behind former FBI Director James Comeys abrupt firing last week, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) announced Monday.
The second-ranking DOJ official is facing increasing scrutiny on Capitol Hill for his role in Comeys dismissal, which White House officials initially said was based on a three-page memo drafted by Rosenstein that laid out the rationale behind the firing.
President Donald Trump has since said he would have fired Comey regardless of Rosensteins recommendation. Two influential Democrats Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin of Illinois and California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee have both said Rosenstein should resign unless he appoints a special prosecutor into the federal probe into potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials.

Mr. Ected
(9,670 posts)And Rosenstein is going to inform all Senators of the mounting evidence against Trumpco collusion and criminal activity.
It seems quite extreme for the DAG to be briefing the entire Senate regarding the Comey matter.
Then again, this is a whole new ballgame these days.
That's what I think too. Let's hope, anyway!

(562 posts)The DOJ in theory doesn't work for the president. They enforce laws and work on behalf of the government. If the attorney general or whoever appears to be risking independence from the president and helping him break laws, they have to rxplain their actions.
Rosenstein is under pressure to explain whether he was being Trump's loyal bitch which is not his role, and potentially aiding in obstructing the investigation.
He'll say whatever to save himself and Trump from embarrassment and that's it. I'd expect nothing beyond that. He's refused to appoint a special prosecutor though the vast majority of the legal community think its a no-brainer because it is. I'm not saying he's a total shit like Sessions, but expect nothing from him until he's forced to or face disbarment.
